Quaint Barn in Farmhouse Garden: Quantock Hills

The Old Stable is nestled in a beautiful Farmhouse garden at the foot of the glorious Quantock Hills. Spacious, fully equipped, oozing with character & sleeping up to 5 guests. A peaceful haven to relax & a perfect base to explore the scenic hills and wildlife, enjoy horse riding, cycling, fishing, pub lunches, cream teas & trips to the coast. A sunny courtyard with pretty garden views & a cosy wood burner awaits for those cooler months. Home to sheep, chickens & ducks and Indie the spaniel. Within the converted Old Stable there is an open plan kitchen/living/dining area and a large bedroom area divided into two by an open original Stable stall. On one side is a double bed and single bed and on the other side a double bed. There is a modern shower room with an electric shower, a wood burning stove, private south facing courtyard and ample parking to the front of the farmhouse. Guests would have exclusive use of The Old Stable and courtyard area. Our grounds are private, however happy to take you to meet the chickens and ducks. We live on site and are happy to share our local knowledge and offer tips to enhance your stay. This is our family home and you will see us in the gardens tending our vegetables and animals. We are located high up on the edge of the village of Spaxton with fantastic views over Bridgwater Bay across to Wales. On a clear day you can see Glastonbury Tor, Flat Holm and Steep Holm. The village is semi rural with several working farms and a whole network of footpaths taking you across the unspoilt countryside. Hawkridge reservoir is half a mile away and popular with the fishermen. Enmore golf club is 2 miles away. There are numerous horse riding stables within the vicinity. Spaxton community stores and post office stock a wide range of local produce, alcohol and daily essentials. The Lamb Inn is very popular and offers great food and has a lovely beer garden. The County town of Taunton is 7 miles away and Bridgwater is 5 miles away. Exmoor National Park and the Somerset Coast are a short drive away. The area has an abundance of wildlife. There are some fantastic bird watching spots, wild ponies can be seen on the beautiful scenic walks and deer rutting can be witnessed in the autumn. A car is desirable to explore the area, however you could spend all day walking the glorious footpaths. We have a springer spaniel, sheep, chickens and ducks on site. Local produce breakfast hampers (traditional or continental) are available on request, including our own free range eggs. £7.50/head. Baskets of firewood for the woodburner can be purchased from us for £10. We are happy to host your dog, however please bring their bed and towels for muddy paws and keep on a lead outside at all times to protect our free range chickens and ducks. We charge £20 for your dog for the stay. Free range hen and duck eggs can be purchased from us at the end of the drive. There is a bbq available on request. Please bring your own charcoal. Where possible we do offer earlier check ins or later check outs and charge £10/hr for this service. The Country Box, our vintage horsebox honesty shop, is across the lane selling country produce and vintage home gifts. Please feel free to have a mooch around. The Lamb Inn, our local pub is one mile away.
