Castle House is a grade 2 listed Georgian town house, situated in the lower part of Chepstow. Recent renovations have now been completed and Castle House offers 3 self contained apartments. This offers light and spacious accommodation and a great base to explore the surrounding area. Apartment 1, Castle House is a second floor apartment, with views overlooking the castle and the church to the rear. It is accessed via 3 steps outside then internal staircase to second floor. Your hosts, Kate and John who live on the lower floors of Castle House, can help you plan an itinerary to make the most of your stay. They have local knowledge and experience of what’s on offer. Local amenities include bike hire, canoe hire, bee keeping experiences, mead making days, guided walks, the famous Chepstow race course, even taking lamas for a walk. Chepstow is where England meets Wales, separated by the meandering River Wye, just a few hundred yards from Castle House. The medieval port of Chepstow offers a good location to visit the beautiful Wye Valley and Royal Forest of Dean. It is located on the tidal river Wye about 2 miles above it’s confluence with the river Severn. The town was developed from medieval times as a port and trading centre. Even in Roman times, Chepstow was an important river crossing. Evidence of Roman occupation can be seen nearby. Nowadays Chepstow is still dominated by the magnificent castle, one of the first to be established by William the Conqueror. Chepstow marks the beginning of several long distance footpaths (Wye Valley, Offas Dyke and Wales Coastal path). The Gloucestershire Way is also nearby. National cycle route 4 and 42 pass through the town. This area offers a geographical, historical and cultural area of interest and has much to offer the historian, outdoor enthusiast, or just a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the scenery. The Wye Valley and Forest of Dean offer a place of timeless beauty and untamed nature. Pause for a moment at one of the many breathtaking viewpoints, walk or cycle the miles of off-road paths, explore the iconic ruins and unique attractions or sample the ever growing local producers fayre and artisan produce. Chepstow offers a plethora of international eating experiences, as well as an abundance of coffee shops. The Tourist Information is a stone’s throw away and can offer advice on what’s on locally. Excellent transport links are easily accessed via road and rail. Guests will access accommodation through red door on black balcony. The balcony is accessed by 3 steps from driveway. This is where the key pad is located. The stairs to apartments are accessed from the boot room. There are a variety of outside seating areas on different levels where guests can sit and enjoy the garden privately. Please note there are steps to access the garden. We want our guests to have a positive experience and recognise that some guests will like privacy and quiet while others want more interaction. We will be on hand to assist when needed. Castle House is located in lower Chepstow. This is popular with tourists looking at the castle and museum. The tourist information is just down the road. Bridge St is predominantly residential but there is useful pub just down the road. Castle House is within walking distance to both the train and bus station. Trains go directly to Cardiff/ Birmingham/ Cheltenham and Gloucester. Buses go regularly to London from Chepstow. There will be other guests staying in Castle House so we respectfully ask that noise is kept to a minimum at the beginning and end of each day. Due to the layout and facilities at this property, it is unsuitable for children, infants and dogs, however lovely they are. Check in is after 4pm and checkout 10am on day of departure. This allows us time to thoroughly clean the apartment prior to guests arrival. We ask that you observe these times, unless arranged with host prior to arrival. Parking is at the back of the house in a large parking area.
