This is a beautifully renovated cottage in a quiet, rural, but accessible, location situated on a private farm track. It has open views and easy walking and cycling from the door to the Findhorn River, Findhorn Bay, Culbin Forest and the idyllic sandy beaches of the Moray Firth. It is also a perfect base from which to explore Moray's famous whisky distilleries, golf courses, beaches and salmon rivers. When you return, you can relax in the private courtyard garden with its wood fired hot tub. The cottage should have everything you need to enjoy your stay. There is a generous sized sitting room with comfortable sofas, cosy wood burning stove, board games, music system and television; a well equipped kitchen and dining room and also utility and boot rooms with ample space for outdoor clothes, washing/drying and dogs. Well behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement. Upstairs are 4 bedrooms, 3 of which can be configured as either twins or doubles with superking beds, the fourth bedroom has a standard single bed with a second, very slightly smaller, 'pull out' bed - just let us know your requirements when booking. There are 2 bathrooms, one has a bath with shower over, the other has a walk in shower. Outside is a private courtyard garden with dining facilities, BBQ and wood fired hot tub. There is plenty of space to park cars off the road. Whatever the season, it is kept cosy by our biomass district heating system (guests can easily adjust the temperature!) with the added ambiance of a wood burning stove if you wish. Sufficient wood for the hot tub and stove for a few evenings is included with additional available to purchase at cost. If you are bringing children let us know and we can provide things to make your stay easier - from cots, highchairs and stairgates, to children's books and toys. In season, day or weekly fishing permits can be purchased locally from the Forres Angling Association allowing you to walk down to fish one of the best salmon rivers in the UK. Rentals are for a minimum of 3 nights and normally commence on a Friday. Week long stays attract a 25% discount. Guests have full and exclusive access to all parts of the cottage and garden. Your hosts Alasdair and Clementina live in the farmhouse next door and are happy to answer your questions about the cottage and the local area and to advise on places to visit. The coastal strip of Moray is an often forgotten corner of Scotland. It boasts world class whisky, golf and salmon fishing, beautiful - and often deserted - sandy beaches and fascinating historic castles, towns and villages. A short distance inland, the country rises to majestic mountains famed for their hill walking and tumbling rivers. Being on the east coast, with all the hills of Scotland between it and the prevailing weather, it is one of the driest and sunniest places in the UK and doesn't even suffer from the dreaded highland midge! Most people find a car useful (there is ample private parking at the cottage) although Forres (with supermarkets and other shops) is an easy bicycle ride away. The closest airport is Inverness (hire cars and taxis available - less than 30 minutes drive). Aberdeen airport is about 1 1/2 hours' drive away. Mainline train services to Inverness and Aberdeen (including the overnight Caledonian Sleeper from London) connect to branch line services to Forres (less than 5 miles away). Road access is via the A96 and A9 from the Central Belt - allow around 4 1/2 hours from Edinburgh. COVID 19 - Updated Feb 2022 - There are currently no restrictions on numbers of guests or the make up of parties but please monitor the relevant Scottish Government websites etc for any changes. Please advise us if you or any member of your party contract Covid or show symptoms during your stay. If you don't fancy cooking or just want to be pampered or have a 'night off', why not contact Rachel Philp of Philp's Fine Food (see guidebook for contact details) - she can deliver delicious, home cooked, meals to the door. The cottage does have neighbours so guests should be considerate about noise in the garden. The garden is self-contained but not securely enclosed and the cottage is adjacent to a working farm so dogs must be kept under control. Security Deposit - unfortunately, we have found that occasionally people do not look after the cottage or things 'go missing'. We have therefore decided to ask for a security deposit through Airbnb. We understand accidents happen and only intend to use it to recover our costs when damage is beyond normal 'wear and tear'. If something does happen when you are staying, please let us know as soon as possible so we can repair/replace as necessary either during your stay or before the next guests arrive. Assuming there are no problems, Airbnb will return your deposit in full 14 days after you leave.
