Mountain View Room in Playground Adventure Hostel
Filled with cozy spaces and 101 things to do in our backyard, we are an adventure hostel & mountain workstation tucked into a mountainside apple orchard above Manali. Curl up in our library with a cup of chai from our bakery & cafe, (Hidden by Airbnb) your high tea on our mountain-view terrace, have an epic Scrabble battle in our board game loft, visit the sacred Mahamai Temple that’s right next door or the waterfall in our backyard, roast s’mores in our firepit or have a movie marathon in our TV lounge. We host weekly backyard hikes, as we call them, where we head out for the day to explore the waterfall up the valley, summit a peak nearby or adventure to some other natural treasure and have a picnic there. Learn how to rappel down a wall, meditate by the riverside, make momos or weave a traditional Himachali shawl. Looking for a serious dose of adrenaline? Choose from some of the bigger adventures we operate to some of the Himalaya’s most remote glaciers and unbelievable summits. Guests have access to their room and all common areas in the property - TV lounge, library & game loft, cafe & bakery, workstations, balconies, front and back yards, garden & parking. We stay in our own room upstairs, so anything you need - forgot your toothbrush, recommendations of the best place to get momos in town, more info on the treks and workshops we offer, we’ve got you covered. Someone is always on staff at reception, in our kitchen and at our cafe & bakery from 8am - 10pm and daily housekeeping will keep your rooms tidy unless you request otherwise. We’ve intentionally gone up the valley from the bustling adventure town of Manali, deciding that if you’re going to visit the Himalayas, you should probably be able to see them out of your window, not the roof of another hotel. Instead, every window and all four terraces of Playground face out only into pine trees, apple orchards and the valley sloping up the mountains toward Rohtang Pass. The monkeys running through our backyard are about as close to having neighbors as it gets. Our favorite things to explore are the swimming hole and bouldering site just up the road, ancient Hindu Mahamai Temple next door, waterfall hike in our backyard and walks down to the village of Shanag below. Playground Adventure Hostel is located at the perfect distance from the throbbing crowds of the Manali town, close to the Halindi stream. There are two roads leading to the property from the city. The choice of route depends on whether you prefer public transport or own/hire a private vehicle. You can follow the directions below ask us to arrange a pickup for you. Note for Winter Bookings in Manali: There may be a disruption to road access (like having to walk around 1km to our property in winters if heavy snowfall has occurred). Power supply may also be disrupted due to the remote location of our property. Snow accumulation in winter is possible, as well as generally unpredictable weather year-round. In terms of heating, our hostel is equipped with two fireplaces, two wood-burning stoves as well as electric heaters and extra-thick winter quilts for guests in each bedroom.
