LA SIRENE - This old house, full of charm & style
Pouzolles is a quiet friendly village with boulangerie, bar tabac, cafe/restaurant and small village shop. The chateau at the village centre is a focal point from which the houses, La Sirene is on Ave Pasteur at the top of the village and sits directly opposite the Domaine de L’Arjolle , a most respected local winery. The ground floor houses the old wine press and fermentation vats. The space provides parking space for four cars. To the rear is a courtyard, a private enclosed haven to enjoy. The first floor has an open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting area and two large bedrooms. Off the landing space there is a sink and toilet. Off the kitchen space there is a South-facing terrace , be-decked with plants and completely private. The second floor has two large bedrooms also (and a narrow bunk-room), bathroom with bath, shower and double sinks and a separate shower room. Large vellux windows in the roof allow the sunlight to enter, a glass inclusion in the second-floor landing brightens the first floor. There are areas of the house still to restore but thus far the house has a light and spacious feel quite rare in an older house of this style. I feel so privileged to have had the opportunity to own it. BEDROOM 1: first floor. King -size double bed with walk-in wardrobe space BEDROOM 2: first floor. Two large single beds (120cm) BEDROOM 3: second floor. Two small doubles (140cm), sofa and direct access to main bathroom BEDROOM 4: second floor. One small double (140cm). There is a campaign bed (120cm) which could also be used in this space. My visitors are assured of a discreet service at all times. Pouzolles is a quiet friendly village with enough life to sustain a boulangerie, bar tabac, cafe/restaurant and small village shop. The chateau at the village centre is a focal point from which the houses, from the small to the quite grand, spread out with the inclines of the streets adding charm and character. La Sirene is on avenue Pasteur at the top of the village and sits directly opposite the caves and of-fices of the Domaine de L’Arjolle , one of the most respected local wineries. It is a “ Maison Vigneronne” so the ground floor , behind imposing entrance doors , still houses the old wine press and fermentation vats. The space where the grape-laden trailers would arrive from the vineyards now provides parking space for at least four cars. To the rear is a courtyard garden, a private and tranquil enclosed haven to enjoy on the long summer evenings. What inspired me so much about La Sirene is that previous renovation projects had left so many original features intact , creating a sense of light and space without disturbing the original charm of the house. From the ground floor a beautiful old staircase climbs the East side of the house to the two floors above.
