River Road Retreat

River Road Retreat is high quality, self-contained, eco-accommodation, in a stunning, very private and rural setting, on 30 acres in Appleby, Nelson. This luxury accommodation includes two bedrooms, generous open living areas and a fully equipped kitchen. Our Retreat is light and spacious and enjoys expansive views across the vineyards to the Mt Arthur Range from the living areas. Original art works from NZ artists feature throughout. A delicious organic breakfast is provided for guests. The extensive deck is ideal for dinning or relaxing. Underfloor heating provides cosy winter heating on the rare occasion when the Nelson sun isn't shinning. The retreat is situated in the heart of our truffiere and gardens - all part of our 30-acre property. The Waimea River is a short walk away, offering swimming holes and a variety of walks along the elevated stock banks. Moturoa (Rabbit) Island, beach reserve, wetlands and inlet are only 7 minutes by car. The villages of Brightwater, Upper Moutere, Mapua and Ruby Bay are all only 10 minutes drive. The nightly fee of $300 is for 2 people. Additional guests (up to 2) are $50 per night each. Maximum 4 people. Rimu, pine and other recycled cladding has been incorporated with contemporary furnishings throughout. Our Retreat has been built with both sustainability and luxury in mind. No compromise has been made on comfort, with the best quality of fittings and furnishings used throughout. The décor is elegant and fine art works feature throughout providing a compelling aesthetic and ambiance. An organic vegetable garden offers fresh fruit, nuts and vegetables available for purchase in season. Fresh free-range eggs, locally made cheeses and wines are all available for purchase. In season - June - early September - we have our truffles - tartufo nero, for sale. Depending on availability we may also have some of our truffle products available for sale. During truffle season we also take bookings for truffle hunting and can provide truffle cooking demonstrations. Special attention has been given to provide a unique experience while maintaining Peter and Rebecca’s commitment to organics, sustainability, and eco-friendly values. The cleaning fee will be refunded it guests leave the place as they found it. Peter and Rebecca will ensure you have privacy during your stay. A time can be made for you to look around our garden. Spring and autumn are the most interesting months for this. During the winter months truffle hunts can be organised. We will be there to answer questions and provide information to ensure your stay is memorable. We can inform you of local attractions and places to visit. Appleby is a rural area and our property is situation on a narrow road that runs alongside the Waimea River, between the coastal and inland highways. With numerous established trees on our property and nearby, the bird song at morning and night, is a delight ! There are very few people around - so great - if you want privacy and peace and quiet. You will need a car to access to an from our accommodation. Coming from the airport you can hire a taxi but the fee to Appleby will be $80 plus one way. Once here there is no public transport readily available. As we live on a farm and are surrounded by vineyards, apple orchards and vegetable gardens there is nearly always some agricultural activity of one sort or another - happening nearby. There are no amenities for infants.
