Beautiful country hideaway in heart of Wye Valley
Lone Stables is a beautiful stable conversion in the heart of the Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by countryside. It's ideal for a couple or family looking for a peaceful base from which to explore the area. The Wye river is at the bottom of the lane, under a mile away, a great spot for swimming, canoeing and paddle-boarding, with a fantastic pub overlooking the water. Lovely walks & cycling from the doorstep, with the Wye Valley and Offa's Dyke routes nearby. The light and airy open-plan living area with underfloor heating is ideal for relaxation with comfortable sofas, a table which will seat 5, TV and record player. The kitchen is modern and exceptionally well-equipped, with an induction hob. The comfortable king-size bed is in a separate bedroom while the double sofa bed is in the living area. The single room is small, a cosy room ideal for a child, and we can remove the bed if you want to bring a travel cot instead. Alternatively, we can replace the bed with a desk for those wishing for a place to work in peace and quiet. The games room is great for children, from toddlers to teenagers, with a pingpong table, craft table, games and books. There is space for two cars to park. *Please note that there are velux windows without blinds in the sitting area where the sofa bed is. There are blinds/curtains on the windows in the bedrooms. You will have exclusive use of The Stables, which has its own private entrance. You have exclusive use of a parking area for two cars, as well as sole use of the private patio area. You will have exclusive use of a studio games room (unheated!) with a pingpong table. There's room to store bikes in the lockable games room. We hope to see you but will be available by phone if necessary. Lone Stables is in a peaceful small cluster of old houses on a very quiet country lane. You have your own private patio space and immediately next to the Stables is a nature reserve with unrestricted access to beautiful pastures- perfect for summer picnics. We are just in Wales: the river Wye at the bottom of the lane is the border between England and Wales. From the doorstep are many circular walks through ancient woodland and pastures, with stunning views over the Wye Valley. You may well see our local herd of deer, as well as kingfishers on the Wye, redwings, doormice and orchids. A short drive away are other lovely woodland walks including Trellech Common. The historic town of Monmouth is just ten minutes drive away, with supermarkets, lovely coffee shops and restaurants. The beautiful ruin of Tintern Abbey is under 10 miles away as are lots of other historic sites. You will have two old-fashioned pubs which serve good pints and meals within walking distance. The Bush at Penallt is a warm and welcoming C17 country inn, on the old village green. The Boat Inn is a well-known pub on the river Wye, with locally-brewed ales and home-cooked food: perfect for an outdoor lunch in Summer, or a cosy evening by the fire in Winter. Both pubs are under a mile from the Stables, a walk on quiet country lanes. There is weekly fish and chips in the local village, Penallt and a playground. The village shop at Redbrook is a mile walk away, down to the Wye and across an old railway bridge. We have joined up with a local paddle boarding company which offers a range of great activities from beginner's lessons to fully equipped adventures. For info, look online at "ad astra adventures". If you would like to book with them whilst you stay at Lone Stables we can offer a 10% discount code for you to use. Companies in nearby Monmouth offer canoeing, kayaking, raft-building, abseiling trips. If you have your own paddle board or canoe you can access the river under a mile from the Stables. There is excellent wild-swimming at Redbrook, 2/3 mile away, and lots of other spots along the Wye river including Kerne Bridge and Symonds Yat. Try Wyedean Canoe Hire to arrange canoeing trips. Other activities include Go Ape in the Forest of Dean. There is a bus service from Penallt to Monmouth, but the nearest bus stop to the Stables is about a mile. If you wanted to stay at the Stables without a car it would be possible but not easy. The Stables is about 50 minutes drive from Cardiff, and the same from Bristol and Gloucester. If you require slightly different check in/out times please contact us and we will try and be flexible. The courtyard is not enclosed, so children would be able to access the road, and therefore small children can't be left unsupervised.
