Beckfield - quirky police house
Located in the heart of this charming fishing village. Now a comfortable holiday cottage our 4 bedroomed Victorian property was formerly the police station. The house includes lots of interesting original features, including the cell doors! Beckfield, formerly the old police station in Robin Hood's Bay offers comfortable self catering family accommodation that can sleep up to eight. Beckfield is a stone-built detached property situated down the hill in the old village of Robin Hood's Bay. Built in 1886, the original purpose of the property was as the police station and many interesting features still remain. The house is within a two minute walk of the beach and all the local amenities, and is centrally heated and double glazed throughout. The tiered patio offers a spacious outside area with views over New Road and is perfect for barbeques or just sitting and watching the world go by. Additionally, there are outbuildings including a coal house, W.C. and wash-house. Beckfield is home to one of the famous "spots" in the bay, when the house was purchased by the family of the current owners in 1938 a gate for the house was made for them by the famous Thompson of Kilburn. His mouse trademark is a favourite with visitors. Please note that the house is accessed via steps from the road, the external photo helps show how many the house inside is on 3 levels. Guests have access to the whole house as well as access to 2 parking disks for the Fisherhead carpark located next to the house, please note that vans and mini vans are not permitted in the car park next to the house but paid parking is available at the top of the hill. Bedding and towels are provided. The house is our self catering property so i'm sorry but we are not on site. Robin Hood's Bay is home to sandy & family friendly beaches, fossils and the Dinosaur Coast, coastal and countryside walks and cycleways, great places to eat, drink and stay as well as fantastic shops, visitor attractions and a variety of themed weekends, festivals and events. Bus services run from the top of the village to Scarborough and Whitby and there is also a local taxi service. Access to the house is via external stairs and is therefore not suitable for those with limited mobility and there is no wheelchair access. There is no phone or wifi at the house.
