Traditional forester's cottage with wonderful views across the Flaxley valley on the edge of the Royal Forest of Dean. The garden is as beautiful as the cottage with our Cedar Gazebo taking centre place. Sit out at night where the silence is only broken by the hooting owls. We have wonderful views from our elevated position over the Flaxley valley and woodland beyond. From the garden gate you can walk into nearby woodland or a short journey takes you to the heart of the ancient Forest of Dean Nuthatch Cottage has been fully renovated with Downstairs wetroom/bathroom. Well appointed open plan kitchen area with dining table. Living area has a wood burner, two sofas & tv. Oak flooring throughout the downstairs living area. Patio doors from the lounge take you back into the garden. An oak staircase up to our two fully carpeted bedrooms. Very comfortable beds, best nights sleep ever according to our previous guest reviews! Blackout blinds at the windows, tastefully furnished and decorated. The cottage has full central heating and a wood burning stove so is very cosy when it’s cold outside. Peace, quiet and beautiful views from our maturing cottage garden surrounded by wildlife. We are lucky to have received a “Gold Award” from visit England and many wonderful reviews. Pets are welcome up to a maximum of 2. There is a £10 per pet per stay charge which goes toward extra cleaning after you leave. We do have a hot tub in the garden which is the wood burning kind. We leave the operation of this to you if you choose to use it during your stay. We are always happy to assist you wherever we can, there’s a full set of instructions and there’s crates of wood on site to purchase. There is a gravel path that leads down to the cottage via a set of steps from the dedicated parking area, these are well lit at night with lights coming on all the way down the path and steps. The last section of track to the cottage can be bumpy especially during the winter but is accessible to all vehicles driving at sensible speed. We ask that you drive at no more than 20mph along the track past the farm as we do get people riding their horses. We like to say “Hello” when you arrive. We are usually on-hand to assist but you won’t see us if you want to be left alone. The Forest of Dean sits between the mighty River Severn and the beautiful Wye Valley. The Forest of Dean is one of our country’s surviving ancient forests so has miles of Forest tracks to walk or cycle. Many castles and places of interest within a short drive. Public transport can be used. The nearest bus station is 1.5 miles from the cottage. There are local taxi firms that may be able to help. We recommend that you use a car. We have a wood fired hot tub at Nuthatch. You will be responsible for filling it with water, heating it and opening the drain when you’ve finished. Filling takes approximately 1 hour to fill and 2 hours to heat (longer for the initial heat-up if the) outside temperature is low Wood fired hot tubs take more management from guests as they have to be attended regularly to ensure the heat is maintained. We also ask that you fill and empty the tub at the start and end of your stay. After a lot of enquiries before buying a hot tub we found this to be the best option for the environment and with no chemicals to irritate the skin you can relax in fresh, clean water during your stay. We are most certainly able to offer help with lighting and advice and there’s a full set of instructions on hand. Crates of seasoned hardwood are available to buy from us. We include kindling and fire lighters with the crate and these can be delivered to the cottage for you. It takes approximately one of our crates of seasoned hardwood to heat the hot tub and keep it at the right temperature for about an hour in springtime temperatures. This will be reduced in winter. Once it’s reached it’s initial operating temperature it should take less wood to heat the tub the next time you use it. You have to cross a gravel area to reach the hot tub so appropriate foot wear and a robe of some kind might be a good idea.
