Welcome to our home! A recently renovated gold mining cottage nestled in the hills above the stunning Karangahake Gorge, at the base of the Coromandel. With roots dating back to pre (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) ’s, this cottage is bursting with character and little pieces of history. Perfect for a cosy weekend away! Wake up to the sound of Tuis and Fantails playing in the trees and enjoy a hot tea or cup of Milo on the verandah, overlooking Mount Karangahake and Mount Te Aroha. Winter guests cottage very cosy. The guest suite occupies the whole of the miners cottage at the front of the house and the owners live in a contemporary structure attached to the back. The cottage has a private entrance and is locked off to the rest of the house. Within your dedicated personal space, you’ll have use of private parking, for one vehicle, the verandah and front gardens. As you approach this historic miner’s cottage you’ll be greeted by the wraparound verandah with front steps, leading to the original front door and front sash windows. The verandah contains a covered seating area with two benches, covered bike storage with a charging point for electric bikes, hooks for wet coats and helmets, as well as ample room for muddy shoes and boots. To the left of the hallway is your Master Bedroom, with a French Wooden Queen Sized Bed, luxury Citta bed linen and soft cushions. In the room you’ll also find: - A historic church seat - French bureau with drawers for storage - Electric radiator - And a large en-suite bathroom with a heated towel rail and luxury rain shower Opposite the Master Bedroom is a lounge which contains the original exposed brick fireplace (not in use). There is a three leather seater couch with pillows and a throw, as well as a Hungarian Food Cupboard that contains, tea, coffee, sugar, hot chocolate, mugs, plates, bowls, tray, cutlery, bottle opener, iron, hairdryer and a first aid kit. For an extra bit of fun, we’ve filled the drawers with multiple board games and books to keep you entertained. In the lounge, you’ll also find: - A table for eating and working from home - A side lamp, mirror and mini bar/kettle - Sky TV, with movies and sports - Fire extinguisher - Hairdryer - Iron and Ironing board (found behind the door) The walls are adorned with New Zealand artist original paintings to add to the character of the home. Drive a short 5 minutes East to find the town of Waihi which has a New World, Restaurants, Cafes, Banks and Petrol Stations. Drive 20 minutes East to find Waihi Beach and its shops and Restaurants including The Flat White Cafe (one of our personal favourites). Drive 20 minutes North to find Whiritoa Beach and 30 minutes for Whangamata Beach. Several takeaways deliver to The Cottage from Waihi , Waihi Pizza and Tandoori Chambers, to name a couple and you can get wood fired pizza from the Falls Retreat as a takeaway on a Friday night . Waihi cabs (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) There is a bus route from Waihi into Tauranga if you wish to explore more of what the Bay of Plenty has to offer. Mountain Bikes and E-Bikes can be hired for the rail trail from Waihi Town (we can arrange this for you if requested). Again, if you need any help, the hosts are just a call away. A car is advisable to explore and get around the local area and further afield. * note a head torch is advisable for cycling or walking some of the tunnels , a bell on the bike is also very useful to warn others , as the routes are shared by walkers and cyclists and can get busy at times * We have one dedicated parking space for the cottage , but if you require an additional one , this can be made available with prior notice .
