This eclectic antique Hawaiian cottage is perched atop a scenic jungle gorge with breathtaking views in every direction. Open and breezy; attention to detail shines from every facet. This historic cottage is completely private and provides accommodations for two couples or a small family. Keeping in mind that this is a cottage and not a full-size house. Couples will be sharing a bathroom. And the walls are not soundproof! The upstairs bedroom has one entire wall of windows that view the ocean, the valley and the stars at night. It is open to the living room below. The downstairs bedroom door is an antique leaded glass door you can see through. (If you’re looking for ultimate bedroom privacy this may not be the right fit for you.) "Light and airy," "magical," "incredible," are just some of the words used to describe this unique home. Many guests check-in and then never leave the house and grounds until their check-out day. This 20 acre shade-grown coffee plantation borders a forest preserve and is completely private. A stream runs through the property year-round attracting a variety of wildlife. There are amazing panoramic ocean, jungle and mountain views. Seasonal waterfall views. Guests have the option of booking a personal tour of the farm and grounds which includes a short hike to see the ancient Hawaiian pictographs, an artesian spring and gives an overview where all the private trails, natural pools and picnic areas are. Reservations include full access to all the grounds and amenities on the farm. The cottage is located over a half mile from the main farm house and is completely private. It includes: 100 Mbps Wi-Fi, W/D and detergent, Barbecue with Charcoal and Kiawe provided, Refrigerator, Dishwasher, Gas Range, Microwave, Juicer, Blender, Toaster Oven and Coffee Pour-over and French Press provided. Foraging is encouraged, but only after taking the tour so you know what's edible, please. Complimentary for registered guests, $75.00 per person for additional visitors or a second tour. This farm is a pesticide free area for those with sensitivities. We also do not use pesticides within the home to kill every living thing. It makes the wildlife happy, and it’s healthier for you too, but if you will be freaked out seeing an ant, gecko, chameleon or another harmless bug, bird or animal, don't stay here or in any natural setting in Hawaii. This is a jungle setting. Read the reviews and decide for yourself if this is an going to be an issue. And, again this is a jungle setting. It is not silent at night. Think of every Tarzan movie you've ever seen and remember what the jungle sounds like? That's what you can expect. Birds, crickets, cicadas, frogs, deer, geckos and wind in the trees as well as rain on the roof all have the potential of being part of your jungle experience. Seasonally, you may have the roar of the spectacular Maliko Falls too. If you don't want to hear any of these things, don't stay in a jungle setting. Guests have access to all the private hiking trails on the property as well as swimming privileges in the natural pools in the fresh water stream. Please note that when rocks are wet, they can be slippery. Booking and payment through Airbnb by Guest for accommodations and activities on Maliko Estate Coffee Farm signifies release from liability and does indemnify and hold harmless Maliko Estate Coffee Farm, it’s owners, and any of its employees or agents representing or related to the Farm as regards to voluntary work, tours, hiking and/or swimming on the property. Host offers self check in so may not greet you upon arrival. If booking a free tour of the grounds host will give you a brief orientation of the cottage and surrounding area and will come say aloha on departure day. The rest of the time you will have to yourself. Hosts home is over a half mile away but on the same property. Maliko Retreat is 3 minutes from the historic town of Makawao with great restaurants, shops and galleries. 8 to 10 minutes from the surfing town of Paia, with more great restaurants, shops, galleries and great beaches. Also the location of Mana Foods, a wonderful gourmet/organic food store. 4 minutes away from Haiku Town with restaurants and a great workout gym. Haleakala is a 35 minute drive to the summit, but it will take you longer, pulling over to take photos of all the great scenic views along the way. Ulupalakua is 35 to 40 minutes away, but it will also take you longer than that to get there as you stop to take photos and just to breath it all in. Hana is a 2 hour drive, same thing, lots of stopping to smell the wild ginger and photograph the waterfalls along the way. It's not to be missed though. The largest archeological site in all of Polynesia is located near Hana. You could easily be the only people in the park to view this incredible, powerful place, stepped pyramid and all. And the drive is an attraction in itself. You will definitely need a car. You won't need a four-wheel drive though. The roads are fine. The best place to rent bikes is just 2 miles away. Krank Cycles, they can set you up for a day or your entire stay. This is a licensed vacation home, registered with the County of Maui and State of Hawaii.
