Belle Etoile Gite

The perfect getaway. Fully equipped cottage close to lots of activities & attractions such as outdoor activities, watersports, shopping, museums & historical attractions. Set in a quiet hamlet with lovely walks, the cottage has everything you need whether you're looking for somewhere to hole up & relax or a base to explore from. The cottage is detached and private although we live on site and are happy to assist if you need anything. If you prefer to be left alone that's fine. Just let us know! The gite has its own private gardens for your sole access during our stay. To the back of the gite is a garden with a patio area and tables and chairs to relax and enjoy a meal. The swimming pool area is in its own enclosed garden. We also have a table tennis table and dart board available. The gardens are enclosed so if you wish to bring your dog, you can relax knowing they are secure. The swimming pool is for your sole use during your stay. It is secure with a pool cover and the garden to the pool is locked each evening. We are flexible with pool opening and closing times, however. The pool is 5m x 9m and is 1m deep. During your stay, you have full use of all facilities in the gite. There is a kitchen with cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery, an electric hob and oven, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge freezer, and washing machine. You have access to a private garden to the back of the gite, the pool area and games room during your stay. There is a parking space right outside the front door of the gite. If you require additional parking, we have another space to the side of the main house. We are usually around so just knock on our door if you have any questions, need help, directions or anything else. There are several tourist attractions a few kilometers from us. There are 2 beautiful chateaus. One of them is a museum and hosts exhibitions. The leisure lakes of the Charente are nearby. You can participate in sports activities or relax on the artificial beach. Cassinomagus is a park where you can visit the Roman baths and enjoy the gardens. There is an adventure park with a rope course, bungee jumping, etc. Oradour sur Glane is a martyr village of the Second World War that has a museum and an exhibition. There are also several walks / guided hikes from the gite. There is a small village (Montemboeuf) about 10 minutes drive where you can find a SPAR, a bakery, a butcher and a restaurant/bar. Montbron is a large village about 15 minutes away which has shops, restaurants, banks, a post office, and a supermarket. There is also a tourist information office. La Rochefoucauld is about 20 minutes drive away and is home to restaurants, a large supermarket, shops and a chateau. For a day of shopping, Angoulême has many shops and large chain stores about 30 minutes drive away and a large retail park (Gond Pontouvre). A car is a necessity for staying in this part of France as there is no public transport and taxis are very limited. There are lots of lovely walking trails and several villages within a few minutes drive. There is a pub and restaurant around a 20 minute walk from the gite. There is a TV with a UK and French box. You are welcome to bring your own Firestick/Chromecast/Apple TV to use with the TV. There is also a DVD player. We have a small selection of DVD’s but you may wish to bring some of your own.
