Welcome to the historic Lancaster Quay and the Little Crooked House where right angles are not quite 90 degrees and the horizontal is a novelty! A sea captain, used to the listing decks whilst at sea, built his wonky on-shore home some 250 years ago. So beware, shipmates, you may need to adjust your gait to accommodate our sloping floors! A leaning Listed Building in a beautiful Conservation area, 5 minutes from centre! You won't be disappointed... However, storms and waves will be abated and your stay will be peaceful, comfortable and you will enjoy Lancaster's cultural city at your fingertips. A wonderful place for solos and couples and, in time, families, friends and larger groups. Your own space, complete privacy and no one else in tow... Children: Please talk to me - I will consider non-toddlers with responsible parents! The light and spacious Blue Room has a comfortable (low) double bed, sofa and arm chair. The sofa bed is useable but the room become a little squashed. There is a small wardrobe, and TV with Wifi. The adjacent bathroom has bath, shower, washing machine and a loo with a view. The large and comfortable, Sumptuous Red Room is now complete with ensuite. It has an enormous King size zipper bed that is made up as two singles - but can be zipped together for snuggles. There is also wardrobe, drawers and somewhere to sit and watch the river below. There's also a SMART TV. The third room is only an Attic room up steep stairs and should not be classed as a bedroom (no option of including it as a non-bedroom space on this website, sorry). It is in the process of being made more comfortable. At present it has a futon bed, clothes storage and toilet and small sink. There is no door. I suggest older children or young adults! The kitchen: tell me what's missing - I think it has it all with a lovely table at which you can laptop or dine! Help yourself to cereal and fruit, tea and coffee... So, will you walk the Pendle Witches' Trail or cycle to Slave Sambo's grave at the beautiful Sunderland Point (check tides!!!)? I give a small percentage of takings to Global Link (a development education centre, creative learning and action for a just and sustainable world (URL HIDDEN) and endeavour always to use eco friendly cleaning products and fair trade or locally sourced delights and you will enjoy completely ethical-sourced services (Phone Co-op broadband), gas and electricity: with Tonik Energy (100% renewable electricity and gas). (Please note if you want laminate floors, leather sofas, blinds and a modern feel - this is NOT for you! There are plenty of soft furnishings) Bookings are, generally, for five nights. Claire and Phil look forward to meeting you very soon. You are welcome to look into every corner of the house - no place is out of bounds but please take care going up and down the narrow staircase and, if the weather is damp, the tiles can be slippery out in the back yard.... (NB gas fire in sitting room NOT working). Phil and I live at The Stables around the corner (1/2 mile). We will personally welcome you to The Little Crooked House if we possibly can. Phil makes wooden flutes from his workshop and we attend festivals so we will not always be around to welcome you or see you off. (EMAIL HIDDEN). Breakfasts: CONTINENTAL breakfast only. Or, please LET ME KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE FULL ENGLISH BREAKFAST INGREDIENTS and I will source them for you for the start of your stay. However, if your booking is less than 24 hours' notice I can not guarantee fresh breakfast ingredients - but will do my best. The Quay: (just off city centre) - three pubs (two with great food - and the neighbourly George and Dragon, with REAL ALE) and one restaurant: Quite Simply French - worth reserving a snug table - Happy Hour is excellent value and food - quite simply tantalising!; The fascinating, child-friendly Maritime Museum almost next door; what more could you possibly want? Only an ever-changing river at your front and the beautiful Quay Meadows at the back - the castle and priory a stone's throw away. The city centre with all it's amenities is a 10 minute stroll - either along the river or up through Quay Meadow and past the castle. Tourist Information is 10 minute walk but there will be a selection of local tourist tips left at The Little Crooked House. Bus station: 5 min walk (bus 555 for The Lakes), University buses are almost continuous - and takes 15 minutes); in the opposite direction, trains: 15 minutes walk the other way (through the Quay Meadows, woodland path and past the foot of the priory - listen out for owls!). Sainsbury's: 5 minute stroll along the river. Parking: restrictions to 3 hours between 8 and 6pm at the front but pot luck, unrestricted parking round the back (until parking charges come in to force from Summer 2018). Please note that the University of Cumbria is at least 1/2 an hour's walk and Lancaster University probably a good hour's walk! Parking: FREE parking for guests: I have one car pass and a second one is £10.00 per week or part thereof. Otherwise, charges are up to £6.00 per day. There is also parking at the front of the house. This is limited and restricted to 3 hours between 8am and 6pm and is free. AWAY DAYS: When we are exhibiting our instruments at festivals we are often not able to go on line and The Crooked House will 'snooze' on Airbnb - but we'll be back on again just as soon as we return to the 21C (usually four or five days)! One of the most wonderful things about letting out your house is meeting all the wonderful YOUs from around the world - you can either take the house as a whole and be private OR, take a room and share the kitchen and other shared spaces in order that you, too, can meet our other wonderful guests. (Since COVID the house is let as a whole).
