Newly converted for 2021-charming Cornish cottage
Brand new for 2021, the First Lady of the Lizard is a newly converted former Georgian coach house. Once the most southerly Catholic Church in mainland UK, the cottage is ideally located (in Lizard village) for exploring South West Cornwall & a stone’s throw from the SW Coast Path. 10 mins easy stroll to pubs, restaurants and gift shops. Perfect for exploring Kynance Cove & Polpeor (England’s most southerly point) as well as Helford and other gems in this area of outstanding natural beauty. The First Lady of the Lizard is a newly converted property and has been finished to a very high standard throughout. We have tried to preserve the character of this beautiful old barn by re-using the original bricks and shape of the structure. From the entrance hall to the left you will find the airy, vaulted, bespoke fitted kitchen and dining space complete with bi-fold doors to allow free-flow access to the outside space and seating. You'll find a large table for those memorable meals or working from, plus a breakfast bar. The kitchen is equipped with lots of foodie gadgets including Qettle tap (no more waiting for water to boil), vintage Kenwood stand mixer, KitchenAid blender (make your shakes or cocktails) and Rangemaster induction cooker for those who have to get their bake on - even on vacay! If (like myself), you're more inclined to let others take the stress out of cooking, we highly recommend the Regent Cafe Bar and Grill in the centre of the village. There are a large selection of takeaway options in the village if you don't fancy dining out and an excellent Thai (Jumunjy Thai) who deliver, but book early! From the kitchen, follow the to corridor to Bedroom 2, with twin single beds - these can be arranged as a double if you so wish. The family bathroom, is situated between the two bedrooms to allow privacy and is equipped with walk-in shower, luxury oversized bath, sink and loo. The shaving point is located in the cupboard under the sink. Onwards down the corridor to Bedroom 1 - fitted with a super king size bed plus an additional single. From the main entrance hall - directly ahead, you will find the utility / loo / boot room. Fitted with washing machine and sink for your convenience. The lounge room is to the right of the entrance hall, complete with bi-fold doors leading to the deck, 50" smart television, Sky Q, log burning stove and comfortable seating. Most visitors to the area have their own transport and there is ample parking both at the property and on Lizard Green (Centre of the village). You can access lots of lovely eateries, gift shops and beauty spots on foot. The walk to the village is flat and a leisurely 10 min stroll will find you on the green- exit Parc Garland's driveway and turn left. The cottage is literally a stone's throw from the breathtaking SW Coast Path which is well worth exploring. Cycling is popular and the village itself is reasonably flat although that can't be said for much of the surrounding area! Cliffs and hills a plenty. The property is on a bus route (from the road outside Parc Garland). Comprehensive timetables can be found online (see Helston to Lizard route). Most buses are double decker and its actually quite a nice way to take a tour. Lizard village is the most southerly settlement in mainland UK. Just a short flat stroll (10 mins-very easy pace) from the cottage will take you to the heart of the village where you will find gift shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants. We recommend the Regent Cafe, Bar and Grill for great food and coffee as well as a great selection of wines and the infamous Rattler cider on tap. The Witchball is a quirky 15th century pub and there are fabulous cafes on the beaches at Kynance, Polpeor and Kennack Sands. Ann's pasties is not to be missed - they are tipped as the number one pasty producer in the area. There's a brilliant play park for the littler members of your party at the Lizard Football club. Its got a fabulous view of the lighthouse too from the many picnic tables and....the best news is you can enjoy a beverage while the younguns burn off some energy. The Lighthouse and Lizard Signal Station are both well worth a visit - both are of historical importance and make a great day out. The walks in this area are second to none. Ranging from easy and fairly flat (such as the village to Polpeor - Lizard Point) to the cliff paths for the more adventurous. There really is something for everyone and I highly recommend walking from the cottage to Kynance Cove. It's about a 5km round trip and is a bit of a hike back up from the beach, but it's SO worth it and you'll avoid queuing for the National Trust car park there. To make the most of your trip to Kynance, check it will be low tide for your visit. Similarly with Housel Bay - what a treasure it is and known only really to locals and visitors to the hotel- it's a hike and a bit of a climb down, but it's paradise. Just make sure you go at low tide and do not hang around once it starts to come in to avoid getting cut off. There's a post office located just off of the village centre, the farm shop at Tregullas Farm (on the road to Lizard Point) is well stocked with provisions. The butchers is also fab but get there before 3pm. The nearest co-op is in Mullion with the larger supermarkets (Tesco, Sainsburys and Lidl) being located in Helston. Most visitors to the area have their own transport and there is ample parking both at the property and on Lizard Green (Centre of the village). Cycling is popular and the village itself is reasonably flat although that can't be said for much of the surrounding area! Cliffs and hills a plenty! The property is on a bus route (from the road outside). Comprehensive timetables can be found online (see Helston to Lizard route). Most buses are double decker and its actually quite a nice way to take a tour. Super fast broadband, books, dvds and games all available for your use whilst at the property.
