Authentic French Farmhouse in Rural Bourgogne

Family home and authentic farmhouse where traditional French, quirky ornaments and modern features combine to create a unique home. Situated in a small village on the edge of the Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan, at the heart of the Bourgogne region, there is much to do alongside the innate charm of ‘just being there’. Water based recreation nearby, from tranquil on the Cure at Saint-Père, to whitewater rafting on the Chalaux as reflected in the 1940s mounted canoe frame in the living room. Guests have the whole house, which can sleep up to 6 people in spacious character accomodation. The main living area is open with high ceilings and a wood burner to make guests feel at home. The kitchen/dining room next door is open plan, with a Rayburn wood stove and fireplace. The large kitchen is fully equipped with all the necessary amenities as well as an electric cooker and hob for guests to be self-sufficient and the dining table can sit 10 people. Upstairs (1st Floor) the master bedroom boasts high ceilings and an en-suite bathroom with twin sinks. The first guest bedroom is situated next to the second bathroom, which has a roll-top bath and separate shower. There is an office/hall area which contains a spiral staircase. The second guest bedroom has a small double (1.2m) and is located on the 2nd floor, accessible by a spiral staircase. There is a cot/folding bed for those travelling with a young child. The garden is to the front and rear of the property, with an outside seating area and a unique tree trunk furniture & BBQ for guests to use. There is no wifi. Please note there is no central heating. The wood burner keeps the house warm. Included is enough wood for occasional use. If you need more we can supply at extra cost or you can buy locally. The main attractions of this area is its unspoilt tranquillity, clear skies and silence as well as forests, rivers and lakes of the region. There are many beautiful lakes within easy driving distance for guests to spend time including all forms of water based recreation. The other main attraction to this part of France is, of course, the wine. The well-known vineyards of the region such as Chablis and Sancerre are easy to drive to if you fancy a day out. However, there are many other smaller and intimate vineyards right on the doorstop that are a must-visit for any French wine-lover. Nearby are towns and villages all with a history, architecture and culture that can provide a lifetime of interest from chateaus, monasteries, industrial heritage – the opportunities are only be restricted by your time and imagination. The Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan (The Morvan Regional Nature Park) is an area of Burgundy that offers visitors a chance to see a real glimpse of rural French life. The house is roughly a 3-hour drive from Paris and between a 6-8 hour drive from Calais. The village itself is a very small Hamlet with around 50 inhabitants and there are several similar neighbouring villages nearby. Public transport links to the village are non-existent, so we would recommend that guests come with their own transport, usually a car or bicycles are a good option as the roads are quiet and not too hilly. - There is no internet/WiFi in the house. - There is very limited phone signal, To get best phone signal we take the short drive to the church. This is on top of a hill just outside the village. If you were to stand at the front door, looking out to the road. Drive straight ahead. Through village. Past old fountain, on the right. The turn to the church is just outside the village, on the right. There is also a small sign. - There is no shop or bakery in the village but during summer there is a bakery delivery van which passes each day through the village. Alternatively, there's a bakery in St Pere, direction Vezelay 8 - 10km de Chalvron). - Bathing/Swimming, there are several beautiful lakes and rivers in the area. The nearest possibility is le Pont sur la cure. Take the direction Vezelay. On a sharp bend at Pierre Perthuis there is a restaurant on the left and directly opposite the turn for D353 - Menades, Precy le Moult. Take this road. The water is La Cure and is quite shallow. The lakes in the area are Lac du Cresent, Lac Panciere and Lac du Chaumecon. We have leaflets and small maps in one of the bedrooms.
