Awesome area to explore, with walks, great scenery, local vineyards and cafes, Akaroa is only 60 kms away, Lincoln University is 6 kms away. Kaikoura is a great day trip to see the whale s and dolphins, Hanmer springs is also a great day trip. Mount Cheeseman for skiing a great day trip as well as Porters Heights, and Mount Hutt. Christchurch and the Shaky city experience about the earthquakes is an excellent activity to do. chch international al airport is 20 to 30 minutes away. a great rural retreat where you can fully relax. there are buses that go to chch and Akaroa, but best to have a car to travel around to get the most out of the area.
