Additionally we have started a key box check-in and we are maintaining a minimum 72 hour buffer in-between bookings to prepare, clean, sanitise, check and reset the guest suite according to AirBnB's new Enhanced Cleaning Protocol. We frequently welcome guests who need to self-isolate. We can also receive Day 2 and Day 8 test kits where this is required however guests will need to book these themselves. The Space Beckon Yard is a self-contained and private guest suite. Although attached to our house, the guest suite is completely separate and has its own entrance. The interior living space is 330 square feet split over two levels, with an additional 230 square feet private courtyard at the back of the property. Guests will love the simple layout and how everything has been arranged for maximum comfort with an eye for vintage elements. Whether it's the private courtyard or the exposed wooden staircase, everything about this space will make guests feel at home. The guest suite is located in Bakersfield on the eastern side of Nottingham, less than 10 minutes taxi drive away from Nottingham Station. The Courtyard The french doors of the kitchenette open up to a private and secluded courtyard at the back of the property. There is outdoor furniture provided so that guests can have their morning coffee or meals in this space. The courtyard can be used for yoga, exercise, sunbathing or anything in-between. For the greenery buffs out there, the back of the courtyard features a small garden inspired by our foreign travels: it includes cordyline australis palm, phoenix canariensis palm and fatsia japonica. The Bedroom The bedroom is located on the first floor of the guest suite and it has a double bed with 100% linen bedding, blackout blinds, a wardrobe, a small mirror, a full length mirror, USB charging points, books and a Bluetooth speaker amongst other things. Any guests staying for more than seven days will be supplied with an additional set of bedding to which they can switchover whenever they wish. The Shower Room The shower room is also located on the first floor and it has a shower, a WC, a sink, two mirrors and a heated towel rail. Towels, hand towels, face towels and bath mats are supplied with additional sets provided for any guests staying seven days or more. Shampoo, conditioner and shower gel are also provided. The Kitchenette Beckon Yard has a fully functional and well-resourced kitchenette. Coffee, tea, cooking oil, olive oil, salt and pepper are provided. We also provide guests with supplies for a continental breakfast for the first morning of their stay. Guests are very welcome to contact us in advance if they have any dietary requirements or preferences. Other items in the kitchenette include: * sink and drying rack * small fridge * single hob induction cooker * oven * microwave * blender * toaster * kettle * espresso maker * cafetière * pots and pans * plates and cutlery * glasses and cups * general kitchen utensils If guests have any additional requirements for kitchen utensils or tools, they are very welcome to contact us and we will do our best to accommodate these requests. We have equipped the kitchen for long-term stays though guests should note that food essentials like coffee, tea, oil etc. are not refilled during the stay. Local supermarkets are only a short walk away in case guests run out of any food essentials. Quarantining and Self-Isolation Beckon Yard is ideally suited for those who need to quarantine or self-isolate. Check-ins are facilitated by a key box, there is a private entrance as well as private courtyard that is not shared with anyone else. We can receive Day 2 and Day 8 test kits where this is required however guests will need to book these themselves. Test kits can be passed on to guest in a special mailbox w set up in the courtyard. Due to the private entrance, guests can have takeaways or food delivered directly to the guest suite. Popular takeaway apps in the area include Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat. All big supermarket brands in the UK also offer grocery deliveries. We recommend that guests register and schedule these services in advance of their stay. Guests are welcome to contact us at any time if they have any further questions. Business Travellers Beckon Yard is ideally suited for professionals, business travellers or visiting academics. Major employers such as NTU, E.ON Energy, QMC, Experian or Capital One are less than 15 mins drive away. The guest suite is completely private which makes it a great environment for concentrated periods of work without any distractions. The guest suite has recently been upgraded with a Mesh WIFI system which provides a stable Internet connection throughout the suite. The main kitchen table can be used as a desk space. An iron, ironing board, hair dryer, soap, shampoo and towels are just some of the items that our guests can expect. There is also an espresso maker to help our guests to stay awake when that crucial work deadline is looming. A real treat is to take a break and re-charge in the courtyard. Business travellers should note that in order to expense their trip, they can add business addresses or additional business info to their itinerary at anytime - before, during, or after their trip. Long-Term Stays Beckon Yard is a fully functional and well appointed guest suite ideally tailored for long-term stays. We frequently have guests staying for a couple of months or longer. Feel free to check out the reviews by our long-term guests. Our concept for the suite is very simple: guests should immediately feel at home. Guests staying for more than seven nights will be supplied with an extra set of bed linen and an extra set of towels to which they can switch over whenever they wish. Most of our guests prefer the convenience of a serviced laundry service provided by our local dry cleaner six minutes walk away though weekly access to our personal washing machine can be arranged if required. Please note that we expect long-term guests to regularly clean throughout their stay as there is no weekly cleaning service. A vacuum cleaner and cleaning materials are supplied in the suite. Guests should note that the guest suite is supplied with toilet rolls, box tissues, shampoo, body wash and other type of essentials. Once these essential items are used up guests are encouraged to replenish these with their own preference. Several supermarkets are within walking distance from the guest suite. There are a few potted plants in the suite which guests can water throughout their stay or, if they prefer, can be watered by us. There is also the option that the plants are removed if guests prefer. Whatever it may be, we wish to make our guests stay as comfortable as possible and we are on standby if guests have any additional requirements. Entertainment Beckon Yard has a 32 inch Sony Bravia Smart TV with a Roku Express streaming player with dozens of free channels including All 4, YouTube, Bloomberg and Sky News. Netflix can be accessed on our account. Guests can log into their own Amazon Prime account if they have one. Please note that the TV is not connected to an antenna and therefore has no access to standard analogue channels. Internet connectivity in the flat is provided through a WIFI mesh network which we recently upgraded to. Dotted around the flat are several classic books which guests are very welcome to browse through during their stay. There is also an art & photography book collection in the living room which guests are welcome to browse through. A chessboard and a deck of cards are also the living room. Finally, a small Bluetooth speaker is available in the bedroom: guests can access the speaker by using their own phone, tablet or laptop. Exercise and Wellbeing For trail runners or anyone seeking to do outdoor exercise or just a gentle walk, Beckon Yard is located 0.6 miles away from Colwick Woods - a 50-hectare nature reserve with ancient woods, trails, diverse wildlife and city views. Early morning runners will practically have the woods to themselves. On their return from Colwick Woods back to Beckon Yard, our guests can buy fresh bread and delicatessen from Navarra - our local Italian grocery shop which we have listed in our Guidebook. Parking Beckon Yard is located in a residential area with no parking restrictions or parking permits required. If guests let us know in advance, we will park our own car in such a way that guests can park in front of the guest suite using on-street parking. There is no shortage of parking spaces on the street. At check-in guests will be given a key to their own front entrance. Though it is attached to our house, Beckon Yard is fully self-contained and private - this includes the entrance to the guest suite which is also private. Guests also have access to their own courtyard at the back of the property. Guests are always welcome to knock on our door if they have any questions and we are very happy to help out. Beckon Yard is located in Bakersfield, a very friendly family neighbourhood located about ten minutes away by bus from the main city centre of Nottingham. Within 5 minutes walking distance to the flat is the local high street, Carlton Hill, where there are a number of essential shops such as Tesco, Iceland, a dry cleaner, a post office, a bakery etc.. Recent additions to the high street include, The Brickyard, which specialises in locally produced beer, craft beer and gin. An even more recent addition to the high street is Albie's Cafe which serves locally roasted coffee, cakes, sandwiches and breakfast. At night Albie's is known to serve excellent cocktails. People in this part of Nottingham are very chatty so don’t be surprised if you get drawn into conversations with strangers. Listen carefully and you might be able to catch one of the local colloquialisms such “ay up me duck”. This is a proud and very much local neighbourhood which also features a fairly significant Italian community that settled in these parts of Nottingham in the 1950s and 60s. The bus to Victoria Centre takes about 10 minutes depending on traffic. It takes 15 minutes to cycle to Nottingham Trent University. Uber is also available and costs about £6 into the city centre. In 2020 Nottingham has launched an innovative electric scooter hire scheme which has proven to be extremely popular. Guests can download the "Wind" app which allows them to hire a scooter for an approximate cost of 12 p a minute. Beckon Yard is right next to our house and we are always available if guests have any questions or if they need anything.
