Malthouse Loft is imaginatively designed, waterside accommodation, situated in a lovely garden area adjacent to beautiful, open countryside with views towards Melrose Abbey and Gattonside Heights. It's the perfect base for a few days walking, cycling or exploring in the beautiful border country. The light and spacious open plan, first floor accommodation consists of: Sitting/dining area, King sized bed Shower, wash basin and separate wc. Kitchen facilities including a gas hob, microwave oven with grill, fridge-freezer Wood-burning stove with oven and hotplates, Private parking Bike store Waterside and countryside terraces for relaxing and barbecuing. The Malthouse Burn, following the course of the mill lade which once powered the water mills at Melrose Abbey and at Newstead, flows through the garden. The sound of the water cascading over a small weir provides a beautiful, restful ambience in any season. Guests have exclusive access to the private garden and terraces, the parking space and bike store. We live close by and are often available to assist guests, should the need arise. In our absence, contact details of someone living locally will be provided Malthouse Loft is situated within the Eildon Hills and Leaderfoot National Scenic Area, in the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in Scotland. The picturesque town of Melrose is within one mile and easily reached by a choice of level, roadside or country paths, passing by the well preserved remains of the beautiful Abbey. Here you will find some excellent restaurants and speciality shops. Traditionally, in April, the famous Melrose Rugby Sevens tournament is held in the town, the big crowds creating a great carnival atmosphere. Tweedbank railway station (Edinburgh Waverley one hour) is less than 3 miles or a 20 minute cycle ride away!. Whilst there are wonderful opportunities for walking and cycling starting from the accommodation, a car is advised for visiting the many and varied attractions further afield throughout the beautiful Scottish Borders. Shops, restaurants, pubs and other facilities in Melrose are a twenty minute walk or five minute cycle ride away. A breakfast pack including milk, cereals, eggs, seasonal fruit and bread is provided each day and there is ample provision of tea, coffee and sugar. To assist in your preparation of meals-in, we provide a selection of herbs and spices, olive oil and usual condiments.
