Traditional guesthouse with its own courtyard and wonderful views of Kountouro Bay and the Aegean. It is located 5 minutes away by car from Megalo Livadi beach and the homonymous settlement, which is an ideal destination for those looking for a quiet vacation close to nature. The dirt road (1.5 km) that connects the guesthouse with the beach has a few difficult parts for conventional cars. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, between the reservations we take additional measures to clean and disinfect surfaces that are often touched by visitors. My family and I will be available at any time to attend on our guests, if requested. The guest house is part of a small family house complex, located in the settlement of Megalo Livadi, on the hill above Kountouro bay, on the southwest side of the island. The sandy beach with natural shade from the tamarisk trees, the clear and shallow waters and the two taverns by the sea are 5 minutes away by car. In the settlement, opposite the church of Agios Nikolaos you can visit the old mines, which once offered prosperity to the island. The violent episodes of the historic strike to improve the working conditions of the miners and the establishment of the eight-hour workday also took place there in August 1916. The sunset behind the loading bridge (landmark of the settlement), combined with the natural landscape and the remnants of mining activity left to the ravages of time and the elements of nature, is a spectacle that fascinates the visitor. In the settlement you can also see the old neoclassical building that housed the offices of the mining company (unfortunately almost destroyed by fire and negligence ...), the memorial for the dead miners of the strike and a small ore museum. Megalo Livadi is 15.4 km from the port and 11.2 km from Chora. From the guesthous, the beach of Megalo Livadi is 5 minutes by car (dirt road and asphalt) and about 10 minutes on foot if you follow the path. The dirt road that connects the guesthouse with the road network of the island has a few difficult parts for conventional cars.
