The Riverside Bothie is nestled on the banks of the Wakamarina River in Canvastown , Marlborough Built on the site of a former gold miner's hut, the Riverside Bothie enables guests to have a glamping experience, see nature close up and explore the beautiful rural countryside and historical gold mining area that is Canvastown. We are a retired couple living nearby on the property and meet and greet our guests on arrival with a breakfast basket and to introduce our Riverside Bothie. Local activities include gold panning, gold mining tours, tramping, bush walks, swimming, mountain biking, kayaking, freshwater fishing in the Wakamarina or the Pelorus rivers also saltwater fishing in the Marlborough Sounds which are 10 minutes drive away to the wharf at Havelock. Access to the river and the paddock area is fully available. The river is shared with our neighbouring property owners and occasionally neighbours may also share use of the river bank area As hosts we live nearby on the property and are available to assist guests as required. Parking is available onsite for your car or other smaller vehicles. Campervans or larger vehicles may need to park in a neighbouring paddock parking spot by arrangement. We wish to provide a COVID safe stay for our guests hence we are required to sight your current vaccination passports or a negative test result taken 72 hours prior to arrival. We live in a rural and historical gold mining area that still has active small gold claims being mined. There is a local country pub a short 5 minute drive away for food and beverages and the local township of Havelock is 10 minutes drive away for a selection of cafes, supermarket, marina and boating facilities and is the gateway to the Pelorus Sound and its many lovely bays. Our valley is a gateway to Mount Richmond Forest Park and is regarded as one of the top mountain biking tracks in New Zealand. There are several walking tracks that are also accessible into the park. The Riverside Bothie has direct access into the Wakamarina River which is suitable for trout fishing, swimming, kayaking and gold panning. We have lots of birdlife around us. Canvastown is situated on SH6 midway between Blenheim and Nelson cities. Access is by motor vehicle typically or a bus service that stops at the local pub at the entrance to the Wakamarina Valley. We are 4km up the valley from the pub. Set up for 2 adults and up to 2 kids ideally. We could arrange to pickup guests from the pub if necessary. We wish to provide a COVID safe stay hence we require our guests to hold a current vaccination passport or a negative test result within prior 72 hours. As the Riverside Bothie is "off grid" it has a 12volt solar power system hence nil mains power devices are used. There is a double USB powerpoint outlet in the kitchen for charging mobiles etc. (We can provide a limited 230 volt power supply if required for essential needs) The flushing toilet facility is a chemical type as used in caravans, campervans etc and is cleaned daily. Basic rules of operation are explained upon arrival. An iced chillybin is provided for your perishable foods storage and iced packs are replaced daily by us. There is a wood burner fireplace on the deck area which makes the enclosed space nice and toasty warm for you when it is a cold night! We have also installed a wood fired hot tub by the bothie for soaking in under a starry night.
