Austinmer is like a small coastal village rather than a suburb and was named NSW's most beautiful beach a few years ago. It's a lovely beach with a grass area at the back for a picnic under the large norfolk pine trees. The beaches continue to the north and south and so you're spoilt for choice. A short walk to the west, is the massive Illawarra escarpment. This is a bush walker's dream. For the really keen you can walk an hour up hill to the top and be rewarded with sensational views. Public transport is really convenient. The train from Sydney, or into Wollongong, is a short 400 metre walk at the end of the street. A train from the airport is easy, travelling via Wolli Creek.
