It was the timeless quality of our pretty West Country village called East Coker that persuaded the poet TS Eliot to immortalise it in his Nobel award-winning Four Quartets titled ‘East Coker’ it is the second poem of T. S. Eliot's Four Quartets which famously starts “in my beginning is my end” and indeed his ashes are buried in the village. East Coker has many attributes, not least coming runner up in the best village in Somerset competition in 2018. Within a stones throw of Bridleway Lodge you can find The Helyar's Arms-our local which is open all day and serves splendid food and real ales. The village also boasts a very pretty church and licenced cafe/bistro again, with a superb menu all within a 10 minute walk. Our amazingly beautiful Jurassic Coastline is famous for fossils of Jurassic aged marine life and its only a 40 minute drive away. It stretches from Exmouth in East Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset, a distance of about 96 miles, and has been inscribed on the World Heritage List. In particular the town of West Bay is known for its filming of Broadchurch. Closer to home you have Ham Hill which is a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest, Scheduled Ancient Monument, Iron Age hill fort, Roman site, Local Nature Reserve and country park. Also a visit to Nine Springs is a must, a Scenic, 127-acre countryside park with varied landscapes & footpaths, plus a dog friendly cafe just a couple of miles away! Alternatively we can also offer Haynes Motor Museum in Sparkford, UK's biggest exhibition of cars and motorbikes dating from 1900 to today, plus kids' play areas. Or you could choose to walk into the next Village of West Coker where you will find another Bistro, two wonderful pubs and a hotel offering a finer dining experience. The bustling town of Yeovil is only a couple of miles away and here you will find shopping, soft play areas, restaurants, and cafe's in abundance. It also boast's the home of Yeovil Football Town FC, two theatres, a cinema and bowling. However if History is more your thing, try Montacute House - a late Elizabethan mansion with gardens in Montacute, South Somerset. Also worth checking out is the Yeovil Showground – just a couple of miles up the road, this area is often used for car boot sales, outdoor shows, steam rallys, music festivals and the like. The first or second weekend in June often yearly the village holds ‘CokerFest’ a music festival with live bands and well stocked bar – always a bit event in East Coker. A visit to Sherborne is a must With its abundance of ancient and beautiful buildings, superb Abbey, picturesque Almshouse and two Castles (one built by Sir Walter Raleigh), Sherborne’s many attractions make for a captivating visit. The town trail, available from the Tourist Information Centre will help guide you around Sherborne’s star attractions and unravel its fascinating history. Specialist shops With a wide range of individually-owned shop and boutiques, Sherborne is a great place to find a unique gift, inspiration for the home and exclusive fashion. Sherborne is also a real treasure trove for antiques lovers. Or perhaps visit Sherborne Castle, Dorset which has been one families home since 1617. Built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594, this historic house reflects a glorious variety of decorative styles from over 400 years of English History. Experience nationally important collections of furniture, paintings and porcelain. Walk in Capability Brown’s English Landscape Garden or attend one of their many events throughout the year from fair days to dog shows. There is private off road parking for up to 3 vehicles Yeovil Junction is only a 10 minute drive and trains have a direct line to Exeter and London Waterloo Taxi's are in abundance closer to Town, so its never a problem to find one, day or night. Yeovil bus station has locally run buses to many local areas but also coach trips to many cities for shopping, night life and Theatres.
