Liza's Suite 2 - 'Your Brand New Room with a View'

Liza's Suite 2 offers a self-contained studio apartment on the ground floor of our home with far-reaching panoramic views overlooking the lake, the island, and the village of Sala Comacina, on the premier western shore of Lake Como. Liza's Suite 1 offers a self-contained open-plan studio apartment consisting of queen-size bed with lake view, and sitting area with two-seater sofa, both areas with direct balcony access through large sliding glass doors with electric block-out blinds and electric sun awnings, to a balcony with outdoor setting for alfresco dining, and two sun lounges. The kitchenette includes sink, hot plates, microwave, mini-bar fridge, and bar stools. A spacious bathroom includes a shower, toilet and basin. Use of a washing machine and iron with board are available upon request. Suites 1 and 2 can be reserved together to sleep six guests in two separate studios, sharing one main entrance (see separate listing Airbnb (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) Guests can easily access Sala by train from Malpensa or Linate to Como. From Como travel by local C10 (blue) bus or by taxi (€60). (A taxi from Maplensa to Sala costs €130, from Linate €150). We always recommend Gig who speaks perfect English. For Sala request the bus to stop at San Rocco (outside the village Bakery). Here you’ll discover Amalia's village bakery selling freshly baked bread daily, milk, and general supplies. Also in the village, three caffé/bars open year-round (two with free Wi-Fi), and four restaurants in season, all with alfresco terraces, offer a varied choice from pizza to fine-dining. The bank is located at the entrance to Sala and provides the service of a Bancomat (ATM). Opposite you'll find an artisan butcher also selling other food items for your convenience. From here a water-taxi service connects to the island with its medieval history; maybe better known today for Locanda dell'Isola Restaurant, famous for its celebrity status and set menu, unchanged since (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) The island’s La Botta (Barrel) Bar is a lovely place to enjoy relaxing refreshment after walking the island, or when returning to Sala by lake ferry, or simply to visit for an evening aperitivo as the sun sets the surrounding mountains aflame, arriving and returning by water taxi. In the square you'll also find Restaurant La Tirlindana with alfresco dining in season and indoors during the colder months. The Lake’s many famous attractions are all within easy reach by car, local C10 bus (pre-purchase tickets from Cimino’s Bar, adjacent to the bank), or regular ferry service (pontile near Taverna Bleu Hotel), which stops in Sala (tickets from Sala are available on board), during the season, or stopping more frequently at the island. Tourist attractions include villas such as Balbianello, Carlotta, and Melzi; the towns of, Cadenabbia, Bellagio, Varenna, and Menaggio, and the international ambiance of Cernobbio and exclusive Hotel Villa d’Este. In Como the ‘Centro Storico’ is a shoppers’ paradise with an easy-going charm, and enchanting historical ambiance. The Greenway Walk explores historic spots along the lake and connects from above the house (access from the Yellow Madonna along Via degli Ulivi near the cemetery), or by taking the ancient and unique Via dei Pini behind Pro-Loco. From Sala amble to Ossuccio and beyond to Lenno, Mezzegra, and Tremezzo (Villa Carlotta), finishing in Griante, a distance of some 8.5 km – meandering along the lakeshore and at other times higher up with panoramic views. The Greenway is easily doable in parts, as the walk touches C10 bus stops and ferry embarkation points along its path. The community of Sala provides a beach with swimming area set into the lake just along the ‘Lungo Lago’ below the house, or 50 metres down from Bar Romano/Caffé Milani (bottle shop) on Via San Rocco. Another local watering hole is Cimino’s Bar Sport (which sells cigarettes, and C10 bus tickets), just next to the house. Sit inside or on the roadside and watch the world race past. In nearby Lenno (2 km) the weekly market in the town square and along the waterfront around the beautiful ‘Baia di Venere’ (the Bay of Venus), has been drawing visitors for over 100 years to troll the stalls selling everything from vegetables, plants, clothing, smallgoods, hot roast meats, hardware, to caged birds. At any time, the Lenno waterfront is a wonderful spot to enjoy a stroll or refreshment and both Bar Golfo and Bar Sport offer free Wi-Fi. In Lenno you'll also find a Sigma supermarket, petrol station, hardware shop (Valdé), and coffee shop with free Wi-Fi, all within a few metres of each other dispersed across the intersection of Via Rima and the main road, Via Statale (SS340). Close by is the more interesting local Dino’s supermarket, and a pharmacy (English spoken). Shop hours vary. A car is unnecessary as all major landmarks can be accessed by local C10 (blue) bus, or more leisurely by lake ferry. C10 Bus tickets are available in Cimino's Bar. In Sala ferry tickets are available on-board. General food items including fresh bread, meat and small goods, twice weekly vegetable van, wine, beer, soft drinks, bottled water, bus tickets, and ice creams, etc are all conveniently available in the village of Sala. Nearby Lenno (2 km) offers two supermarkets, a pharmacy, and English-speaking medical service. Emergency Hospital assistance is available in Menaggio.
