Distant Hills provides the perfect space to host a special celebration or to simply relax and enjoy some quality time with your family and friends. With seven stylish, comfortable bedrooms all with en suite shower rooms, a spacious, bright lounge and secluded garden with its own stream and small woodland, Distant Hills is located at the edge of the quiet village of Spean Bridge, just 9 miles north of Fort William, ideal for exploring the stunning lochs and glens of the Scottish Highlands. Our stylishly decorated property has the special advantage of all rooms being on ground floor level making it ideal for the whole family. The lounge is large and bright with beautiful views out over our south-facing garden. It's a lovely, cozy space with lots of comfortable armchairs and sofas, perfect for spending quality time with your family and friends, playing games, drinking, listening to music and even dancing! Flatscreen tvs are provided in each bedroom as well as a smart TV in the lounge to avoid any 'paper, scissor, stone' battles to decide who gets to watch what. We have a selection of board and quiz games and a variety of local area guide books and maps which you would be more than welcome to borrow during your stay. In the summer months, we run our property as a very successful and busy bed and breakfast, so our kitchen is very well stocked with modern appliances: a 5-ring hob, dual oven, a microwave, 2 fridges, freezer, dishwasher, instant boiling water tap, coffee percolator and Dualit toaster. There is also plenty of cooking equipment, utensils, crockery, glassware, table linen and storage space. The dining room is rectangular-shaped with 7 individual tables, which can very easily be arranged to suit your specific requirements and works fantastically well for buffet-style dining. New for 2022 is a fabulous new hot tub, the tub is positioned in a secluded area of the garden giving plenty of privacy and views of the snow capped peaks during the winter months. A unique feature of Distant Hills is a little stream that runs through our garden and into a very small wooded area. There is plenty of outdoor seating on the large secluded lawn at the back of the house and there is even a gas BBQ available upon request. You will have full access to the guest house bungalow, which will be locked off and completely separate from the adjoining one-storey owner's accommodation. You will also have your own separate large, secluded garden with its own small stream and wooded area. Off-road parking at the front of the property will be shared with the owners but there is plenty of room for at least 8 cars. We live in the adjoining locked-off owner's accommodation, which has the advantage of us being close by if you have any questions or issues during your stay. We will, however, fully respect your privacy and will very much leave you to your own devices once you are settled. Both properties have their own separate entrances and separate gardens. The only shared facility is the off-road car parking area at the front of the house. Spean Bridge has a Spar shop, post office, two lovely gift shops and at least two fabulous restaurants (limited winter hours) within walking distance of the property. Fort William is only a short drive away offering a wider selection of restaurants, takeaways and supermarkets such as Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl and M&S Food. The is so much to see and do in and around Spean Bridge. Surrounded by forest, lochs, glens, mountains and hills there are so many walks and bike rides to suit all abilities. Known as the 'Outdoor Capital of the UK', the Lochaber region is the perfect place for activities such as kayaking, mountain biking, fishing, wild swimming and skiing in the winter to name but a few. Spean Bridge also has its own golf club, with another in Fort William and a couple more in the surrounding area. If you want to see the sights of the Scottish Highlands, you could not be more centrally located with day trips possible to Glen Coe, Inverness, Oban, Aviemore and even the Isle of Skye. We would be more than happy to suggest some itineraries for you. If you're staying in Spean Bridge, a must visit is the Commando Memorial from where you get the most incredible views of the Grey Corries and the Nevis mountain ranges. Known as the 'crossroads of the Highlands', Spean Bridge has very good transport connections. Situated on the junction of the A86 and the A82, Spean Bridge is well-connected by buses and it also has it's own train station on the scenic West Highland route. The nearest airport is Inverness. Spean Bridge is also on the East Highland Way walking route and just a few miles off the better-known Great Glen Way long distance walking route. And of course, Ben Nevis, the UK's highest mountain is only a few miles away. We are very keen walkers ourselves and would be more than happy to make some suitable recommendations for you. If guests are to include babies and/or young children, please make this clear at the time of booking so we can discuss and arrange cots, high chairs and any other special equipment as appropriate.
