A modern, well appointed, self contained studio unit (adults only) situated on the inside flanks of an extinct volcano. Our 10 acre property is nestled in mature native Kanuka bush dotted with secluded clearings. We have approximately 2.5 km of private trails for you to explore while engaging with our many species of native birds. Start you day with the enchantment of being woken by the melodic strains of a 'dawn chorus' and finish by viewing our internationally renowned clear night sky. We are situated in a hilly rural area with a narrow gravel road access which is not suitable for campervans. The property is currently undergoing a conversion to Bio dynamic agriculture and we are developing an internal network of private bush trails. We produce beautiful native flower honey and beeswax food wraps from our own busy little bees. Exquisite butterflies and moths can be found over the summer months. A continental breakfast is supplied including our own fresh free range eggs. Outdoor courtyard has a small barbecue. Queen size bed with luxurious bed linens. Two pairs of binoculars are provided for guests interested in bird watching. Access to a first aid kit, iron and ironing board are available on request. Wifi is of basic NZ rural level and not suitable for streaming. Lockbox key access is available. Guests must be double vaccinated and must produce a vaccination certificate on arrival. Checkout is 11:00 am. We live on site in the adjacent house. Jane works the property and is around most days. We are situated in Takamatua, 1.5 hrs drive from Christchurch International Airport and only 8 minutes drive from the old French settlement of Akaroa. Local Akaroa area attractions include: *seaside cafes and restaurants *award wining wineries, cheese factory and olive oil producers *guided walks *Sailing cruises and boat tours *sea kayaking tours *Dolphin watching and swimming *Alpaca farm tours *18 hole golf course *historic buildings , museums, local art gallery and the famous Giants House Self drive travelers only (no camper vans) as no public transport is accessible from the property.
