This lovely Victorian home set in an area of outstanding natural beauty comes with central heating, underfloor heating and a log fire (logs provided) which makes it a warm, cosy place. There are amazing walks along the Cotswold Way which goes through the village. In order to maintain the high quality of this property, we don’t accept under 12s. 11am checkout available on Sundays. ** COVID-19 Prior to every visit we carry out a total deep clean of the entire property, sanitising with a multi surface disinfectant to immediately kill any viruses. It is non-toxic so is perfectly safe for all areas, including food preparation surfaces. We are committed to following the Airbnb cleaning protocol developed in partnership with Ecolab, a global leader in cleaning and hygiene technologies. ** Victoria Villa has four large bedrooms, all with twin beds which can be joined to make super king sized beds if required. One of the twin bedrooms is a huge, lower level open plan bedroom/games room. There is a big living area with a cosy log burner for snug winter evenings. The dining table overlooks the fantastic view of the surrounding countryside and the kitchen is well equipped. There is a lovely bathroom on the first floor and a separate wet room on the way down to the lower level bedroom. Outside is a large terrace which is perfect for al fresco dining during the warmer months and a garden overlooking the delightful views and a brick built barbecue. The village of Whiteshill boasts a lovely cotswold stone pub serving real ales, with a great chef and a roaring log fire. It has a very quirky village shop next to the park and playing field and has some wonderful animals including alpacas, deer and many sweet calves. Guests will have access to all parts of the house and garden. I live nearby and will be happy to help with any problems or enquiries. Our house, in the stunning village of Whiteshill, is situated close to the quaint market town of Stroud in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The ‘Cotswold Way’, offering just over 100 miles of magical walking, with long distance views from the Cotswold escarpment, and journeys through picturesque villages and past famous ancient sites, passes along the top of Whiteshill. Stroud is 2 miles away (a peaceful walk across fields making it shorter than that) and is a lovely, quirky town. It has cobbled streets, many shops selling items made by the talented, artistic locals, great coffee shops and a fantastic farmers’ market on Saturdays and Sundays which sells delicious local produce and crafts. It is home to many people with ‘green views’, interested in sustainability and protecting our beautiful environment. Whiteshill is a perfect base for touring, being within easy reach of Bath, a city so beautiful and special that it has been designated a World Heritage site, Stratford Upon Avon – Shakespeare’s birthplace, Oxford and the Regency spa town of Cheltenham. Wales is less than an hour’s drive away and we are also only 10 minutes from the motorway which can take you to Devon and Cornwall as well as to the north and Scotland. London is easily reached by an efficient train service from Stroud which takes 90 minutes. Alternatively, spend your time walking throughout the five valleys, stopping off at Painswick’s stunning churchyard with its 99 yews and 33 tombs or popping into Laurie Lee’s favourite pub, The Woolpack, for a pint. Why not visit one of the many commons such as Rodborough Common, a 287-acre biological and geological Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Area of Conservation and a lovely place to hear the larks during the spring and summer months. Or walk to Woodchester Mansion, a 19th Century Victorian Gothic masterpiece mysteriously abandoned mid-construction in 1873, untouched by time and the modern world. This unique Grade 1 Listed Building has been saved from dereliction but it will never be completed, enabling visitors to view the secret building techniques of medieval Gothic builders. For the more active visitor, there is the Gloucester Ski and Snowboard Centre 6 miles away, South Cerney Water Park 18 miles away and various golf courses including both Minchinhampton and Painswick Golf Courses. Gloucestershire, known as the royal county, is home to four members of the royal family. Prince Charles lives 12 miles away at Highgrove House near Tetbury. HRH The Prince of Wales has spent 30 years transforming the grounds of Highgrove into some of the most inspired and innovative gardens in the UK and these are open to visitors throughout the year. For more information go to h(URL HIDDEN) His sister, Princess Anne, lives at Gatcombe Park near Minchinhampton, just 7 miles from Whiteshill. The famous Gatcombe Park Horse Trials are held there every August attracting the world’s top Olympians. She also hosts a biannual craft fair in May and October. Prince and Princess Michael of Kent live in Nether Lypiatt near Stroud, a mere 4 and a half miles from Whiteshill. Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Phillips, and her husband, the ex England rugby player Mike Tindall, live in Cheltenham which is 14 miles from our village. There is parking for three cars in front of the house with additional off-road parking for another car available. A car is essential as the village is set in a quiet, peaceful area away from public transport. Stroud train station is situated 2 miles away and there is a taxi service on the station forecourt. One night stays are available on certain dates. Please contact the host with your enquiry.
