SuperKing Bed & En-Suite Bathroom near Marciac
Bonjour! We are Eyal and Tia. Our home on a forested hill near the Chemin de St Jaques (Camino del Santiago) has an ever-changing view of the Pyrenees. Glass doors light the double-volume lounge, opening onto a large terrace, pool and garden. Whether you want to write, make art, or just practise the art of being, you'll be inspired by gorgeous views of the Adour Valley, mountains and sunrises. Travel from us to the Marciac Jazz Festival, Madiran Wine Festival, Equestria, Tarbes en Tango, etc. The spacious bedroom has a very comfortable Superking bed with two large bedside units, a desk and chair, and a large built-in cupboard. French doors open onto the large guest terrace, which is shared with the other guest room. On the terrace is a table with an umbrella and four chairs. The private en-suite bathroom has two basins over which hangs a spacious bathroom cupboard fronted by well-lit mirrors. There is also a full-length mirror and a bath with a shower over it. There is ample hanging space for towels, toiletry bags, and clothes. When you arrive, park in the carport, or, if that is already occupied, then next to the garage wall. Please do not park in front of the garage door. You'll find the "front door" (i.e. official main door with doorbell) at the back of the house! It's easiest to come in this way with luggage as there is a ramp up from the carport. From the entrance hall, turn left into the corridor. Your room is at the end of the corridor on the left. The door opposite yours belongs to the other guest room. From the entrance hall, you also have access to the open-plan kitchen and living room. Our own quarters are on the first floor, but our study above is open to the double-volume living room, so we ask you to limit activity and noise in that space unless we are there and invite you to join us. We will offer you a welcome drink on arrival. When the weather is good, we may serve breakfast at one of three outside tables. Otherwise, breakfast is taken in the living room. When the pool is open, you are welcome to use it. Please avoid tracking water through the living room! There is usually someone in the house and one or both of us, or one of our helpers, will normally be available to greet you from 17:00 or to help with queries before 11:00 in the morning. We are happy to share our local knowledge with you. Our property is a little way outside Maubourguet, on a hillside, and has a magnificent view. We are in the Madiran wine region where several vineyards offer tasting experiences. Restaurants, markets, galleries, museums and horse-riding are nearby. There are some good restaurants in our town and in nearby villages. All proudly serve regional produce, but each has a unique approach, so all are worth visiting. The local tourist office has very helpful staff and a wealth of maps and brochures about sites and activities in the region. They also offer access to a well-maintained archaeological museum. The main exhibit is an impressive Roman floor mosaic of "Le Dieu Océan" which was found in a farmer's field nearby. During the summer, there is easy access by car to several festivals in nearby towns and villages. The most well-known of these is the Marciac Jazz Festival (July/August) which attracts thousands of local and international visitors. — The Chemin de St Jaques (Camino de Santiago) passes near the house. You can cross a field to walk into town along the green and pleasant Chemin, or simply take the direct route (ten minutes shorter) along the main road, where the views of local houses and gardens are also charming. || — Our house is 2.5km from Maubourguet centre (car 7min, cycle 12min, walk 30min). || Nearby towns by car: Marciac 22 min*, Tarbes 30 min, Lourdes 40 min, Pau 55 min. || Airports by car: Tarbes/Lourdes 36 min, Pau 52 min, Biarritz 110 min, Toulouse 118 min, Bordeaux 122 min. || — Trains run from all airports to Tarbes Station, and buses from near the Station to Maubourguet. || — It's also possible to rent a car near Tarbes Station, or from our local Maubourguet SuperU, and we have parking space. || — We have secure parking for bicycles. || — Local buses run from Maubourguet to Tarbes, Marciac and many other towns and villages in the region. || — *NOTE ABOUT ACCESS TO MARCIAC DURING THE JAZZ FESTIVAL: It normally takes about 22 minutes to drive from our house to the centre of Marciac. However, during the festival, you cannot drive in the centre. It takes about 18 minutes from our house to reach the first (unofficial) place where you can park on the side of the road on the Route de Maubourguet, at the entrance to Marciac — check it in your navigator. It takes a few more minutes to get to any of the official designated parking areas — you can see these in the PLAN of Marciac on the Accès page of the Festival website. Although the house is fairly wheelchair-friendly (wide doors, low switches, no steps to the room), the access ramp to the main door is steep, and the terrain around the house, in the garden and beyond, is uneven. We recommend sturdy walking shoes/sandals if you're planning to go anywhere on foot, even if you plan to stay on the road.
