The Potting Shed is small but perfectly formed for 1 or 2 people to stay in complete compact comfort. And it's dog-friendly! An entrance lobby for coats and boots leads into an open plan kitchen, living area and bedroom, plus a walk-in shower room. The village shop is 80m away and stocks everything you might need. Don't want to cook? The King's Arms pub is 50m away, a friendly local serving good pub food. Discounts for longer stays: 3 nights 5% and 7 nights 10%. The Potting Shed is perfect for a short break or longer holiday and with our special discounts, the longer you stay the better the price! Whether you are a keen walker and want to tackle Dartmoor, are more of a stroller along rivers and lanes, or just want a base from which to explore the whole gorgeous county of Devon, the Potting Shed is ideal! It's compact but has everything you need. Well-equipped kitchen, big walk-in shower room and a comfy double bed. The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge (with small freezer compartment), hob, convection oven/microwave/grill, slow cooker, cafetiere, all cutlery, crockery, and cooking pans and utensils. The lounge area has a TV with Freeview, an extendable dining table and a selection of books and games. The bedroom area has a wardrobe and small chests of drawers and a very comfortable double bed. We use Night Owl coverless duvets which means the entire quilt is washed between uses making this a cleaner and more energy-efficient option - they are also extremely light and comfortable! The walking here is fantastic! You can take a different route every day for a week right from the doorstep. Moorland, rivers, lanes, there's miles and miles to explore. Dogs and Dartmoor tend to go together and your well-behaved dog is welcome to stay with you. Your dog must be over one year old and you need to mention it at the time of booking. Please respect the furniture and decor and keep your dog clean and either in its own bed or use a throw to protect things. Dogs cannot be left unattended. If you are planning a walking break, do come prepared! You will need walking boots and waterproof gear. An OS map of the area is also recommended. There are lots of livestock on the moor and dogs MUST be kept under control. Guests have the whole of The Potting Shed to themselves. The entrance lobby is great for muddy coats and boots and also for drying off dogs, should you have one with you! There is also a small enclosed garden area where you can sit and admire the view and let your dog roam. When arriving and leaving please always be considerate to neighbours and keep noise to a minimum, respect boundaries and do not stray onto neighbouring property or into the adjoining fields as these are private. I am around most of the time and happy to help with suggestions of places to visit or things to do, lend maps or walking books etc. While dogs cannot be left unattended in the Potting Shed, I may be able to 'dog sit' for you if you want to go off somewhere that isn't dog-friendly, so please ask. South Zeal is a pretty moorland village with a strong sense of community. The village shop (80m) sells everything you need to cook for yourself (and more), or there are two pubs close by. The King's Arms (barely 50m away!) serves great pub food and is a really friendly local. If you can shop locally that would be great as local shops and businesses need our support. The village shop is also a Post Office so you can withdraw cash. Okehampton – 4 miles away – has 3 supermarkets, takeaways and a cinema! There are several other lovely small towns nearby such as Chagford and Moretonhampstead or take a longer beautiful scenic drive to Tavistock on the other side of the moor. Exeter is only half an hour away, straight up the A30, and Plymouth about 45mins. Parking – the drive to the house is *very* narrow and, unless you have a small car and are a confident driver, please don't attempt it. I have an arrangement with the very nice people at the King's Arms pub that allows my guests to park in their car park. It is only 60m away. I will give you a parking permit to put in your windscreen. There is also a free public car park in the village, about 200m away. Bicycles – I can offer access to a padlocked outbuilding to store bicycles. These are obviously left at your own risk. Buses – there are buses from Chagford, Exeter, and Newton Abbot that come to the village and I suggest you look them up online to check when they run. Taxis – there are taxis in Okehampton. The Potting Shed is next to a working farm and you will occasionally hear farm-related noises - such as a tractor, cows mooing, dogs barking etc. it's proper country living! The building itself is set well back from the road in a garden, so there is no passing traffic. If you are planning a walking break, do come prepared. You will need walking boots and waterproof gear. An OS map of the area is also recommended - we can lend you a copy. When arriving and leaving please always be considerate to neighbours and keep noise to a minimum, respect boundaries and do not stray onto neighbouring property or into the adjoining fields as these are private PLEASE do not order takeaway food deliveries! Couriers can never find the property and knock on neighbouring doors - this is not a popular form of entertainment. If you find these guidelines restrictive, then the Potting Shed is probably not the ideal property for you.
