The Hut at Downlands, rural retreat, Wiltshire

Our purpose built Shepherd's hut is nestled in a little wooded area on the side of our working farm and equestrian facility. You could be in the middle of nowhere yet you are only a minutes walk from the car park. From the hut you have excellent views across our 25 acre cross country course and the beautiful Wiltshire downs. You're likely to spot a horse or two, some boxing hares and a whole host of other wildlife. The hut has a standard double bed with luxury pocket sprung mattress. A mattress protector and bottom sheet are provided but you will need to bring your own bedding, pillows and towels. The kitchen area is well equipped and has a sink, double gas hob and a powered cool box. There is small log burner for when it gets chilly but for sunny evenings there is a picnic bench and BBQ/fire pit outside (bring your own carcoal). A small amount of kindling and logs are provided, more can be purchased if necessary. Enough tea and coffee for your first mug or two is provided. The Hut has 12v electricity and plenty of different lighting options to allow you to create the perfect atmosphere for a snug evening. There is a Bluetooth speaker and USB charging points There is storage for a bag or two under the bed. There's also a decent sized storage box for any food that you may bring. The toilet and shower block is a 20 second walk from the hut and has hot water on demand. As an equestrian facility we could also accommodate your horse (for an additional fee) to enable you to enjoy the equestrian facilities we have on offer. We have hundreds of miles of bridleways, all accessible from the farm. If walking is more your thing then you will find an Ordnance Survey map in the hut. There are endless options depending on how energetic you're feeling. The chalk downlands provides a unique habitat for birds and nature in general and there is always plenty to look at and enjoy. The farm has featured on both Countryfile and the One Show for its wildlife. We are on the sustrans Route 24 cycle route so cycling is plentiful. Longleat forest and Windhill bike park are also nearby for the more adventurous mountain bike rider. I'm a keen mountain biker myself and would happily share some local knowledge. Longleat, Bath, Stonehenge and Salisbury are all nearby. If you want to let someone else do the cooking we have several excellent country pubs nearby (5 min drive or 20-30 min walk). If you need to stock up at anytime there's a decent store at Codford 3 miles away, or, 3 major supermarkets in Warminster, which is 10 minutes away by car. The Hut is situated in its own dedicated clearing with parking provided a minute's walk away. As an equestrian facility we sometimes have pony clubs and camps on site. When these are happening the toilet and shower facilities are shared. I would notify you straight away if your booking clashed and cancellation would be your choice. We live on the farm too so will be happy to help you get settled. We'd like you to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings, therefore there is no WiFi or television. However, should you feel the need to check what's going on with the world then there is 4G connectivity with most networks. There is space in the Huts grounds to pitch a tent for children or friends, there is an extra charge for this. Enquire for more information.
