Le Pommier is one of four fully equipped self-catering cottages set in 11 acres of private forest and fields. It has a mature garden, a stream and a large shared swimming pool. Can Llouquette is a restored 18th Century fruit-farm in the foothills of the Pyrenees, only 1hr from Mediterranean beaches, in a very rural, very peaceful, pristine natural environment. There are no neighbours and all four cottages are completely separate and private. You'll just hear the sound of the river and birds! Le Pommier is on ground level below the old Farmhouse, and is suitable for a couple, two singles or a couple with a small child. It has been freshly renovated and includes a bedroom with a double bed and space for a cot, a private shower/wc, kitchen and living room. Very quiet and private, Le Pommier also has its own entrance and terrace. The only thing you will hear will be the river and the breeze. You will need your own transport. We are 3 km from the village and 15 minutes from small market towns. Can Llouquette is real unadulterated wild nature. It is in the Haut Vallespir: the Romans named it 'the wild valley' with good reason. It is stunningly beautiful and peaceful and at times capricious and unpredictable: in short it is nature as few urban people encounter in modern life. For us it is intoxicating, unfeigned nature which reminds us of our true place in this world we are rapidly destroying. We have had to learn to become totally self-reliant, but we savour the long warm delicious days with no sounds of a car or a plane or people. It's been brutally hard physical work to create it over many years. But we love it, because it is the quintessential antidote to crappy modern life. If you have adventure in your heart and crave nature and sanity, it is for you. If you are the kind of person who thrives on busy towns and constant connectivity it is most likely not for you, so please think again: we have no TVs (only books, lots of books), mobile reception is poor in the mountains (you'll get it but not from the gite), we have wifi (but we cannot always guarantee it because of storms: yes they happen, we are in the mountains and lightning strikes grill routers and trees do fall!). In lieu of this you get the sound of the river and owls, roe deer and wild boar at night, you'll see myriads of butterflies and a wake of Griffon vulture flying overhead. You'll get hot summer days and glorious sunshine, punctuated by occasional short and wild summer storms which purify the air, you'll get balmy evenings and lots and lots of peace. And you'll get vibrant floral springs, and languorous long warm autumns with blue skies with clear, clear, drinkable pure air. It is this that makes it the perfect peaceful wild rural location to escape modern life, because one is truly enveloped, blanketed, enshrouded in nature. The perfect place to detox and completely disengage from the pressures of the daily grind: to rekindle family connections. It is a haven for those looking for a peaceful, disconnected, quiet holiday, but where you will also find culture, fine cuisine and wine, mountain walks, water sports and beaches, as well as sightseeing on your doorstep. Just a few minutes from Montferrer, our nearest village or a short drive to farmers’ markets, supermarkets and spa towns, you can base yourself here and easily explore the area. An area straddling the French and Spanish border, an area of blue mediterranean waters and lush wild, yes really wild, mountains. We are also only 30 miles from the coast and for the more active traveller there are many watersport activities on the coast, as well as golf, hiking and mountain biking in and around our valley.
