Cosy character cottage - edge of the Cotswolds
This lovely grade II listed cottage is one of Dursley's hidden treasures. Located in the heart of this historic market town, our place is within easy walking distance (5 mins) of several pubs, local independent shops, a supermarket and swimming pool. The house is cosy and comfortably furnished, and features a wood-burning stove and a stream outside the window! Self check-in, free Wi-fi, parking. Local train service to Gloucester, Bristol, Bath and beyond. As a 500-year old cottage this home has some quirks, like wonky floors upstairs, which you would expect in such an old building, and some of the walls don't meet each other at right angles! It's cosy and homely, with plenty of creature comforts. We are often asked about the outside space - it has no garden as such but a small courtyard beside the front door where you can sit on the bench and people watch if the weather is kind. It's tucked away in the oldest part of town behind the church amongst several other characterful properties. We won't be at the property during your stay but we will be available on Airbnb messaging should you need anything. Dursley has a great selection of cafes and even an award winning pub (The Old Spot) to choose from so if you don't feel like cooking you can always find something that fits the bill. Sainsburys supermarket is a 5 min walk from the house for any last minute supplies you may need. Other shops close by include newsagents, the post office, a bakery and a butcher - as well as a florist, haberdashery, camera shop, gift shops and much more. The local church of St James the Great is practically on the doorstep, as are the 18th century market house/town hall and the Dursley Heritage Centre. The market house hosts a small local farmers' market once a month between March and December. Driving times to Gloucester and Bristol are approx 40 mins via the M5. Bath is just 50 mins by car. Local attractions such as the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Slimbridge, or Woodchester Mansion near Stroud, are only 15 mins away. From Dursley and Cam railway station there are local train services to Gloucester, Bristol, Bath and beyond. There is a bus to the train station from Dursley bus station (5 min walk from house) or alternatively the station has a free car park if you fancy a day trip to the local tourist centre of Bath on the train. The Cotswold Way long distance walking route runs right through the centre of Dursley. It's a popular and picturesque route, part of the National Trails network. Dursley is ideally situated to explore the Cotswold Way and a number of other attractive walks nearby, and the town even hosts a walking festival every October.
