If you cannot see the dates you require please message as we may have flexibility to suit. Valley Cottage- perfectly situated close to the Wye river and five mins to the canoe hire centre . Nestled in the Wye valley at Lydbrook and three minutes by car/10 minutes by bike to the Mountain bike centre. Lots of forest walks right out of the door ! We bought this cottage when we fell in love with the area. We returned year after year for the walking, cycling and canoeing , we couldn’t get enough ! We occasionally use it in the week and many times with our family throughout the year. All the seasons have something to offer for those who enjoy walking, kayaking, paddle boarding, climbing or cycling. Its a place of outstanding natural beauty that is for those with a love of the outdoors. The cottage is perfectly located for the Wye valley and the Forest of Dean. Goodrich castle is 5 minutes away by car, Symonds Yat 10 minutes and the Wye river is literally at the bottom of the village and the Forest at the top where you will regularly see Deer and Wild Boar. We particularly like the walk at Speculation Woods - the blue bells in June are amazing and the snow this year was a delight. If you want some adventure you can visit Symonds Yat and rock climb or look out for the Peregrine Falcons but if you like to kayak then we recommend Wye Valley Pursuits who we have used many times. They are located at Kerne Bridge which is a 5 minute drive away. Its always good to book and reserve kayak by phone especially in peak season. If you have a passion for cycling then Cannop cycle trail is only 5 minutes away. It has a family trail for those who want a flat and easy ride but for the more adventurous amongst you try the blue or red runs through the beautiful forest. Also fantastic to walk! There is a cycle hire place at the centre and a cafe. There are 2 Go Ape aerial tree climbing and adventure centres in the Forest and within 15 minutes, one hires Segways that can be taken out with a tour guide. If you like a bit of history Goodrich Castle is 5 minutes away and there are some amazing walks from there through the forests, meadows and along the Wye River. We provide guide books for you so you can select a walk that suits your ability and schedule. There is also a good pub in the village with local Ales and quality food. Puzzle Wood is located just outside Coleford where many films and series have been filmed - Star Wars ,Dr Who and Merlin to name but a few. A steam railway can be found at Park End - Dean Forest Railway. Both within 15 minutes of the cottage. If you want a bit of retail therapy Ross on Wye and Monmouth are also nearby. The village of Lydbrook has a post office, shop and a fish and chip take away (open part of the week) and an Indian restaurant. Coleford the nearest town has a good Co-Op and many take away options (typically close at 9pm though) If you go to the bottom of the village you will meet the Wye River and there are some amazing walks or simply a place to picnic. We have recently refurbished the bathroom and it now no longer has a bath but a large walk in shower- Pics to follow! We are available 24/7 for any problems you might have, just call! Our neighbours are very friendly and have a key and in any any emergency please knock on their door(to the right as you look at the house) A quiet neighbourhood with a very good shop containing everything you need as well as a fish and chip shop and Indian restaurant and pubs within five minutes drive A car is essential (or a bike) Parking is on street and you shouldn't have problems finding a space. However we do ask that if you bring more than two cars that you park down past the shop, we like to respect our neighbours parking ! One of the beds in the 'single' room is small - and not a standard size - ideally suitable for children or adults who are no more than 5ft 5. We can be a little flexible with dates so if you don't see the booking you want please feel free to contact us and we will endeavour to accommodate . Bed linen and towels are provided. NB Our cottage is not particularly baby and toddler proof especially as we now have stone floors throughout the downstairs, a cast iron wood burner which is obviously hot to touch, numerous corners associated with a cottage circa 1851 ,a fairly steep wooden stair case, an unguarded outside patio step area .If you are bringing small children we ask you to be aware of this and make provision or contact us for any information prior to booking. We don’t allow pets. Please could we ask that you put the kitchen waste bin out into the wheelie bin at the front as sometimes it can be a few days before we return to clean . Please please don’t bring bikes into the house as they mark the walls and floor . There is a bike stand out front that bikes can be secured to .
