CherryTree Cottage Kingsize room, Tavistock, Devon

We have the King Size, a standard single room and a double-room for up to 5 guests. We are close Tavistock, Dartmoor, Plymouth and the North Cornwall coast. We cater for singles/couples, and business travellers. We can take and collect guests from inns and restaurants within a 5 mile radius of our home. We keep poultry, and guests may like to collect their own eggs for breakfast when available. Continental breakfast is included or a cooked breakfast available for additional cost. Guests have a kingsize bed and an ensuite loo with hand basin and use of a bathroom with walk-in shower upstairs or if they prefer to use it the use of a shower room downstairs. Guests staying in the double have a double bed and have access to a shower. Guests have sole use of a sitting room with TV and an inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove. Guests have sole use of a dining/breakfast room also with wood burning stove. The wood burners are lit in the autumn and winter months. A selection of bottled beers and wines are available for a suggested donation however we do ask that red wine is not taken upstairs but is consumed in the dining or sitting room areas. We are lucky to have several inns and restaurants nearby that serve good food and your hosts are happy to take and collect guests within a 5 mile radius for a small donation. We have a large garden with places to sit and read, have a coffee or a glass of something. The lawn is usually set out with garden croquet which guests are welcome to play between themselves or with the hosts. We don’t provide evening meals but guests are welcome to collect a takeaway from town and eat in the dining room or if they wish there is a barbecue which can be lit if required. Continental breakfast is provided in the dining room with a toaster and coffee and tea making facilities. Cooked breakfast can be provided by prior arrangement for an additional fee. Guests have access to the sitting room, dining/breakfast room and outdoor areas. We are a very sociable couple and look forward to meeting our guests. If you can play already and want a game ask Suzie to play you are unlikely to be refused a game! We are approximately 5 mins drive from the Stannary town of Tavistock. Tavistock is a market town centred around the River a Tavy. It has a very popular pannier market, an indoor swimming pool at Meadow Lands and a small cinema in the “Wharf”. The town has a wide range of shops many of which are unique to Tavistock although there are a few chain stores too. The town is well served by cafes and visitors can choose from the familiar like Costas or places that are unique to Tavistock such as Cafe Liaison which can be found tucked away by the side of the Parish Church near West Street. There is a wide choice of places to eat and drink in the town including Indian and Chinese restaurants, gastropubs such as the Cornish, or familiar inns such as The Queens Head which is a Wetherspoons pub. Guests wishing to dine from a more exclusive menu will find the Bedford Hotel opposite the Parish Church. Guests wishing to visit a country pub to eat or just for a drink have several to choose from within a 5 mile radius of Cherry Tree Cottage. The nearest to us is the Blacksmiths Arms at a Lamerton, a friendly country pub with a good food and a good range of draft beer. A little further away toward Dartmoor is the Peter Tavy Inn and the Elephants Nest at Horndon. At Lydford is the Castle Inn which is ideally located for refreshments after visiting the National Trusts Lydford Gorge nearby. Tavistock is a rural area and Cherry Tree Cottage is not on a bus route. There are buses to Plymouth and Okehampton from the bus station in town and there is a taxi rank by the town hall. However guests will be unlikely to need reminding that a car is fairly essential in rural Devon. Please remember ours is a no smoking house and gardens however there are many pleasant walks nearby. We would prefer if guests would leave outdoor shoes and coats in the conservatory. For visitors on a cycling holiday bicycles can be left in a lockable garage overnight.
