Noarlunga is an off-grid house located in a 50+ acre bush reserve which is full of wildlife and birds. Right next door is the Coastal Reserve National Park which extends all along the deserted shoreline to the Wilsons Prom national park. Sit on the back deck and watch birds drinking at a pond or walk to beach and admire the blue-tongued lizards on the driveway. A visitor said recently : "Noarlunga is a special place, nestled within a large tract of remnant forest surrounded by farmland and a wild stretch of coastline. There you can truly get away from it all and experience real peacefulness, without being too far away from things to do. The house has a lovely weathered feel that you want from a country house, with nice touches like decorative ceilings and stylish old furniture. The house also runs on rainwater and solar power, which although meaning you need to be mindful of your power/water usage, completes the rejuvenating sense of being "off the grid"." Another visitor said: "One of the most beautiful places in the world. Saw over 300 black swans on the estuary. Beautiful house with old world charm, and artistic stained glass windows echoing the surrounding landscape and wildlife." As well as the two queen bedrooms there is also a smaller bedroom which is ideal for kids with bunks. In addition to the two ensuites there is also a central bathroom with toilet. There are two large living areas, a kitchen/eating room plus the spacious back deck. Hopefully I will be able to solve any problems over the phone. Don't merely treat Noarlunga as a place to sleep when you visit the Prom. Make sure you have time to explore the local bush, you might see koalas, wombats, echidnas, wallabies, blue-tongued lizards, snakes and many more native animals. Plus the bird life is amazing. First the birds on the paddocks, then the bush and finally the coast. Winkarlin beach is a well kept secret. Even the Yanakie locals do not know about it so do not be surprised if you walk for miles along the beach and never see another person! We plan to protect this area of bush for the long term future and having like-minded guests stay at Noarlunga is how we make this viable. At some times of year there are snakes about but so long as you watch your feet in the bush and do not approach them they will quickly leave. You may also find that mosquitoes and sandflies can be a nuisance so I suggest you bring a suitable bug spray to discourage them. They tend to be worse in the hot weather, on calm days, especially in the evenings. The final roads to Noarlunga are unpaved but they are maintained and any car can travel them - you just need to slow down a bit! The closest store is the Yanakie General Store which provides groceries, papers, coffee, fish'n'chips, beer, wine, petrol and pretty much anything you might need less than 10 minutes away. Or drive the 17k into Foster to have a wide range of shops and cafes to choose from. As Noarlunga is totally off-the-grid there is no microwave, dishwasher or washing machine. But there are lights and enough power devices such as laptops. Do not be concerned by the water being collected off the roof, you will not find cleaner or more delicious water coming out of pipes anywhere! There is good 3G coverage from Telstra and Optus. Noarlunga can be cold in the winter. There is a wood burning stove (wood provided) in the main family room but the house is large and the bedrooms can get chilly. Plenty of blankets provided! The final kilometres of road to reach Noarlunga are unsealed. No problem driving them in a regular car so long as you keep your speed reasonable but it can get dusty in dry periods. It is possible during periods of very heavy rain there might be a problem with some places on the road flooding but this is very unusual.
