In the 1600s, this house belonged to Colonel William Careless who hid in the oak tree at nearby Boscobel House with Prince Charles as he was retreating from the battle of Worcester. Charles II later returned to this area as King and stayed in this house. The Careless tomb is a prominent feature within Brewood Parish Church and both Earl Spencer and Elaine Joyce have written books chronicling these events. Weston Park, Boscobel House, Moseley Old Hall, Wightwick Manor and Ironbridge are all nearby. Close to the M6, M54, Stafford, Telford, Cannock and Wolverhampton with Birmingham a 30 minute drive away. The Shropshire Union canal runs through the village and can be accessed privately from the house. There are many lovely walks locally and for the more adventurous, Cannock Chase and The Long Mynd are a short drive away.
