Black Sheep Barn. Stylish, remote and great views.
Black Sheep Barn is a luxurious two bedroom converted barn situated near Ludlow in a remote, undiscovered pocket of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s a good place to get away from it all. Explore miles of hill, wild heath and forest or sit on the terrace and enjoy fifty mile views across the small holding to the edge of the Black Mountains and Welsh border. We think it is a special place and we hope you will think so too. You will have the whole of Black Sheep Barn to yourselves. This includes a small wooden decking area and two parking spaces. The barn is adjacent to our house on a small holding with sheep, chickens and vegetable garden. Neither property can be seen from the other and you have plenty of privacy whilst still having an amazing view out over the fields and hills to the horizon. There is a log burner, underfloor heating and electric radiators to heat the property. Porch/Boot room Enter through a porch and boot room, with underfloor heating to help dry your muddy boots and water proof jackets after a good exploration of the hill. There is also a washing machine and sink here together with space to dry some washing. This is a good place to leave a dog when you go out, should you choose to. Living area Get your slippers on and descend the couple of steps down into the main living area. This consists of dining and lounge areas which open out onto a wooden decking where you might wish to sit and watch the sun set. The dining area has a table and four chairs. The lounge has two sofas around a wood burning stove, with a TV and hi-fi. The hi-fi is old but has a mini jack lead for you to plug your phone in. There is a wall of shelves with board games and books for you to borrow. Also a record player and small selection of records. Kitchen and shower room Climb a few steps to the kitchen, shower room and bedrooms. The kitchen and bathroom have heated floors to warm your feet on a cold winter's morning. The kitchen overlooks the living area, making keeping an eye on children easier. It has all pots, pans and utensils you should need. There is a kettle, toaster, electric oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge and microwave oven. The shower room has a large, walk in shower with drencher and standard heads, toilet, basin and heated towel rail. A baby bath is available should this be useful to you. Bedrooms Bedroom one has a timber clad wall, made from timber that once clad the back of the barn. There is a window looking up the hill, king size bed, chair, hairdryer, hanging space and drawers for your clothes. Bedroom two also has a window looking up the hill. It has two single beds which can be pushed together to make a super king size bed. Please let us know in advance if this is the arrangement you would prefer. There are drawers and hanging space for your clothes. The whole of Black Sheep Barn including a small outside area is for your sole use. For more details read 'the space'. We tend to leave people to their own devices, to enjoy the space and quiet. We are nearby though, should you need anything. Black Sheep Barn is high up on the side of Brown Clee Hill. This is part of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s a good place to get away from it all. You could park up, leave your car for the entire holiday and spend your days exploring the beautiful hill. You can step straight from the barn into miles of open access land, meaning you can roam where you wish. The hill is used by a few walkers, horse riders and mountain bikers but usually we have it to ourselves. Ancient woodland, panoramic views and an Iron Age hill fort are all within walking distance. Wild horses roam the hill side, Buzzards, Ravens and Red Kites soar overhead. In the summer, migratory birds inhabit the reeds and gorse. If you are lucky there are deer to be found in the woods. You could follow a stream as it winds its way, try to find the wild horses, swim in Boyne water, explore the woods or just sit by the fire or on the decking and look out over the Corvedale to Wales. If you want a longer walk you could follow the Shropshire Way or head over the hill to the pub for some lunch. You could bring your food with you or order a Sainsbury’s delivery. Alternatively, there are many good places to eat locally. The lovely town of Ludlow is a twenty five minute drive away, with independent shops and plenty of eating options. It is a town that prides itself on locally sourced, high quality food. There is a castle overlooking the river, riverside walks and plenty of pubs. The nearest village with amenities is Ditton Priors, 3 miles away, with a general store, post office, petrol station, pub, butchers and a great cafe 'The Willows'. Black Sheep Barn is in remote countryside. It is beautiful but the reality is that public transport is poor. It is easiest to arrive by car. There is a covered car port and also a parking space for you to use. The lanes around here are winding and narrow but quiet. The last half mile to the barn is unsurfaced track. You are welcome to walk here if you wish, it would be a lovely walk. If you like walking and exploring then you would not be short of places to explore direct from the doorstep. A supermarket delivery can be arranged to arrive once you are here. You are also welcome to cycle here but the last half mile is up a steep unsurfaced track! The closest train station is Ludlow, a twenty five minute taxi drive away. We don't have any experience of local taxis so would have to make your own enquiries about this. There is one public bus a day which leaves Ludlow at the end of the school day and will drop you just over a mile away. Travel cot, baby bath and high chair are available on request - to make packing the car easier. Also, our dog is often loose on the property. He is very friendly with people and dogs.
