Pilton Cottage, Grade II listed 400 yr old Cottage
Beautiful, Boho and cosy, 400 year old Grade II listed stone bakers cottage, in the picturesque and peaceful Somerset village of Pilton, near Glastonbury, Somerset. The cottage has been lovingly and sympathetically renovated, and is now available for occasional holiday rental. The perfect bolt hole for 2, with super comfy king size bed, squashy velvet sofa and wood burning stove, this really is the place to be to enjoy a cosy time away with a loved one (and your dog!) The cottage is set back from a quiet little road in the village of Pilton. When you come in the front door from the little cottage front garden, you’ll be greeted by a lovely little lounge, with original flagstone flooring and vintage Beni Ourain rug from the Atlas mountains which is super soft under foot. There’s a smart tv, with Sonos Soundbar, Netflix, Amazon Prime and a DVD Player, Fast Fibre WiFi, Sonos speakers and Alexa if you want your tech, and boho-chic colours and styling with a wood burner and a soft sofa and comfy high backed arm chair if you just want to kick back and relax. The lounge is so peaceful, getting the afternoon sun in through the little window, and staying cool in summer with the stone flooring, yet you can stoke it up nice and toasty for those cosy winter evenings infront of the wood burner. The kitchen is through the doorway off the back of the lounge - all recently refurbished. We love to cook, so we’ve provided almost everything you could think of in the kitchen to make your stay easier, and many guests have commented on this in their reviews!. There’s an induction hob, electric fan oven, slim dishwasher and microwave, and a fridge freezer. You’ll also find a nespreso machine and a couple more sonos speakers if you fancy music and coffee (although please bring your own coffee pods!). Through to the bathroom, with Bramley shampoo, shower gel, hand wash and hand cream for a touch of luxury during your stay. There's an electric shower over the bath which heats water on demand to a nice hot temperature. The light above the mirror will come on automatically when it detects movement after dusk, to help you navigate the cottage at night. From the back door in the kitchen, you can access the fully enclosed rear garden. There’s a patio set, a barbecue and lighting for using the outdoor space at night. (Although be sure to keep the lights off when star-gazing ! - the village has no street lights, so there is hardly any light pollution - the Pilton stars are hence amazing !) Upstairs at the cottage is 1 bedroom with a lovely comfy king size bed with Egyptian cotton sheets. The windows both have black out curtains/blinds to block out the morning light. There’s a little desk and an Italian leather office chair to use as a dressing table or light use workspace - and a comfy little armchair if you want to sit by the window upstairs and read. A salon grade hairdryer is supplied so no need to pack your own from home. ** PLEASE NOTE** The bedroom has some very low sloped ceilings which run close to the bed on one side, so may not be suitable for very tall folk or those with mobility or balance issues. The stairs up to the bedroom are old and a little crooked so again, may not be suitable for those with limited mobility. The bedroom also has one floor level window with no safety catch (just a normal window latch) so may not be suitable for toddlers and young children. Please feel free to get in touch with any questions, we'll be happy to help We currently offer 3 night minimum stays, so we can afford our housekeeper to do the brilliant job she does, and to reduce the impact of potentially lots of shorter stays on our lovely neighbours and the village as a whole. We also allow up to 2 small/medium sized dogs to stay (and the cottage and village are perfect for dog lovers!). We can’t allow any more than this unfortunately as the space is just too compact (and old!) - if you have more (or bigger!) dogs then we’d recommend looking at some of the more spacious places in the village and surrounding areas. The whole property - including front and rear gardens (both fully enclosed with gates) We’ll leave you be during your stay - but please do give us a call or drop us a text anytime either before or during your stay - we’re more than happy to offer tips for anything you need whilst you are staying. Pilton is quiet ! - and there are no streetlights !. The village itself is beautiful. Spend some time wandering the lanes and checking out the old stone houses set back from the roads. You have some fab country walks round the outskirts too, if you head down Hitchen Hill from our front door, you're on Worthy Farm. You'll see plenty of dog walkers and amblers out and about if the weather is nice. (Stick to the paths on the farm though please, remember this is a working dairy farm). For some more local pictures check out our Insta at piltoncottage We do have a pub in the village (The Crown) which is currently being refurbished inside (as of June 2021) having changed hands recently, and is due to reopen in Spring 2022. Worth keeping an eye on their insta at the_crown_inn_pilton , as they did open their amazing re-modeled garden over summer and served some incredible food!. There are plenty of super pubs a short drive from the cottage in neighbouring villages, most do great food and all are dog friendly. Ask us for some favorites if you come stay and we’ll happily recommend at least a dozen..! Pilton Working Mens Club is also in the village, and open to all - serving a good local pint, and they also do some great home-cooked food. They have bands/events on most weekends, and the "Emerging Talent Competition" for Glastonbury Festival is often on on Saturday nights. We have a fab little coffee shop in the village called ‘The New Room’, attached to the Methodist chapel. Coffee and fantastic cakes(!) and an incredible view of the rolling hills along the south side of worthy farm - it’s well worth stopping by come rain or shine. We are please to say the village has its own little Co-op ! - situated below the Working Mens Club, its small but perfectly formed ! open till 9pm, and is well stocked with all the basics (and a few little luxuries!) Also in the village - the Tythe Barn, St John The Baptist's Church, and Pilton Methodist Church - all worth a look. Further afield - Glastonbury, Wells, Shepton Mallet, Cheddar - this list goes on. Country pubs and little local Somerset places in abundance.... We’re a 20 minute taxi ride from Castle Cary train station (costing around £20 - £25 one way) so you don’t need a car to stay here if you’re happy with peace and quiet ! If you are driving to us - you can stock up at the HUGE Tesco at Shepton Mallet - or we HIGHLY recommend Jon Thorners farm shop - its only a few minutes away from us by car, and you'll find some real treats. Grab a Jon Thorners pie and a bottle of Pilton Cider - you won't be disappointed. The cottage is serviced by a professional cleaning company and due to Covid-19, we have had to push back our check in time to 3pm (unless pre-agreed otherwise) to take into account additional time needed to make sure the cottage is as safe and clean as possible. We've left you a "starter pack" of wood for the stove - it'll get you going. If its a chilly winters eve and you want to get cosy, we'd recommend picking up some more - go for the Kiln Dried stuff rather than the soggy cheap garage plastic bin stuff, you will be rewarded with heat and light and melting-into-the-sofa evenings... ! . You can pickup Kiln Dried wood from Jon Thorners (see below) or Right Price DIY in Shepton
