Shuttaford Farm is a recently renovated historic 16th Century Dartmoor farmstead on the edge of the moors near to Holne and Ashburton. It is the perfect spot to explore the wilds of Dartmoor, walk along the beautiful River Dart or head to the many South Devon beaches for the day. Or just relax in the peaceful surroundings of the house and its large garden. We generally do Friday to Friday bookings. Please message us if you want to discuss other days or duration of stay. A boutique architect designed space with a spacious contemporary glazed extension, Shuttaford Farm has a modern rustic feel with a large double height kitchen and plenty of room for friends and families to socialise. Underfloor heating runs throughout the lower floor to give a luxurious and homely feel on bare feet in the kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms. Large cast iron radiators upstairs and two woodburning stoves ensure that whatever the weather the house remains warm and cosy. On the ground floor is a large open plan kitchen/dining/living space, with a separate snug lounge and study. The lounge has a big corner sofa, woodburner and projecter screen, perfect for curling up and watching movies on a rainy day. Four bedrooms are located upstairs, ranging from a large vaulted ceiling super king size room with ensuite shower and bath, to a cosy fully kitted out kid's room with bed and cot. There are two additional comfortable double rooms, one with a spacious en-suite shower room, and a family bathroom. Large sliding doors in the open plan extension downstairs open onto the garden, with a large lawn area leading to a meadow with a firepit, hammock and kids playhouse and swings. Lots of books and games are provided for entertainment as well as TV and dvd player (and plenty of dvd's). Guests have access to all of the house and garden with the exception of the adjacent barn and courtyard which is a separate holiday let. Ample private parking is provided for at least 3 cars. Shuttaford Farm is located in a hidden valley just outside the village of Holne and next to Ashburton. Holne has an excellent community run village shop, and local pub. It is less than a 10 minute drive to the nearby towns of Ashburton and Buckfastleigh with local shops, cafes and restaurants. Ashburton has a fantastic selection of local food shops, a deli, bakery, fish deli, butchers and farmers market. A 5 minutes drive takes you up onto the open moorland of Dartmoor or down to the River Dart with its magical walks and wild swimming spots. You can walk from the house or head up to the moor, plenty of maps and walking books are provided. The town of Totnes is a 20 minute drive with lots of cafes, restaurants, shops and markets. Nearby places to visit for foodies include Riverford Farm and Field Kitchen and Sharpham Vineyard. The nearest beaches are an easy 30-40 minutes drive with plenty of options from surfing to dog friendly spots all along the south Devon coast. The nearby A38 (less than 10 minutes) allows easy access to Exeter, Plymouth and beyond. A car is essential to be able to explore the area Travelling with kids? There is a full size cot and single bed in the kids room, along with plenty of toys and children's books to keep little ones entertained. Also available are potties, step stools, kids cutlery and plates and changing mats.
