A truly one of a kind private holiday cottage located on the breathtakingly beautiful and mystical Isle of Skye. Dark Skye Cottage offers the perfect romantic getaway for two who want to escape the buzz of everyday life for a holiday on one of Scotland’s most sought after Islands. It offers the perfect balance of seclusion while still only a short walk from one of Skye’s most desirable villages. Highlights • Modern insulation and underfloor heating make it such a cosy place to relax • Fully equipped modern kitchen • Generous hospitality pack • Gas hob and electric oven • Dishwasher • Washing machine and dryer • Giant infinity roll top bath in the bedroom • Walk in power shower • All luxury linen and towels provided • Hair dryer • TV in bedroom • Both the siting room and bedroom TV’s have full Sky package (including Movies and Sports) and a chromecast. You can even watch the TV when in the bath if you wish! • Bluetooth soundbar with Spotify access • Free wifi • Adjustable mood lighting in all rooms Bedroom The luxurious open plan bedroom has a stunning oak sleigh king size bed made up with luxury egyption cotton bedding. The bed is somewhat eclipsed by the roll top bath that has a beautiful view of Broadford Bay. The unique step into the bath was made from one of the Island’s Scots Elm trees that sadly came down in a storm several years back. It was harvested by a friend who also runs a local sawmill. We handpicked a section of the tree that best suited the shape of the step. After several years drying, it was crafted to create a simply stunning entrance that borders the bath. The large pebbles and stones which surround the bath are from one of our favourite beaches where we spent many days playing as kids. Luxury fluffy towels and dressing gowns are provided along with Isle of Skye soaps and bath bombs. As well as the bath the bedroom also has a ensuite walk in power shower. There is a TV in the bedroom with a full Sky package along with a bluetooth speaker. Lounge The lounge is the perfect place to relax and unwind after exploring Skye or to chill out on a rainy day. The cosy couch is a lovely spot to sit and admire the view of Beinn na Caillich and Broadford Bay. The adjustable lighting is great for setting the mood. The TV has a full Sky package with access to Netflix and Spotify. There are also several board games and jigsaws for those lazy days as well as guide books and OS maps to help plan your days out on the island. We are always a phone call away for recommending any nice walks – there are plenty places we can show you that are off the tourist track. Kitchen An extensively equipped modern kitchen with coffee machine, kettle, toaster, dishwasher, electric oven, gas hob and fridge freezer. We also provide a generous hospitality pack on arrival. The breakfast bar is a bespoke design. We managed to source a couple of Talisker whisky barrels and upcycled them to create a simple one off stunning cladding. The adjustable lighting really sets it off. If you want a break from cooking there are also takeaway menus and restaurant recommendations within the welcome book. Upstairs The house has a great upstairs space that we have made into a chill out area/study. It has very comfy Cloud bean bags, a hanging swing chair and a Swedish style desk with an iMac and printer for guest use. Utility/Drying Room Fully equipped with washing machine and tumble drier. The weather can be quite unpredictable at times on Skye so we provide Barbour jackets and wellies for guests – just incase! Guest have full use of the cottage. I am only a phone call away. The cottage is ideally placed in the village of Broadford as it is within easy walking distance of local pubs, eating places, shops and restaurants, while it is set in its own private garden grounds. It has ample parking. It is located some 1/4mile from the A87. It enjoys superb open views over Broadford Bay to the magical Island of Pabay, with the heights of Applecross in the background and the Islands of Scalpay, Longay, Crowlins and Guillamon scattered across the waters leading to the mystical Islands of Raasay and Rona, which can be seen to the north. Boating activities at Broadford Pier can be viewed across the Bay, as can magnificent sunsets. Broadford (in Gaelic “An t-Ath Leathann” pronounced Un Taa Layun means “the broad ford”) was formerly a cattle market up until the 19th century and in 1812 Thomas Telford built a road through the village. It then grew rapidly in the first half of the 19th century with the settlement of Napoleonic veterans. It is the second largest village on Skye and a perfect base from which to explore the island and near mainland as it is ideally placed between the spectacular Red Cuillin and the mainland Torridon mountains. Eating Places Whether you decide to eat in, or you choose to eat out, there is plenty of choice nearby. Broadford has a supermarket and a range of small shops, and you will find a list of convenient eating places in the cottage handbook – these range from a Michelin Star restaurant (within 3 miles) to a take-away fish and chip shop, plus local restaurants and pubs (within 1 mile). Free parking next to the cottage.
