Mt Herbert Cottage is a beautiful farm cottage situated in Diamond Harbour, Banks Peninsula, Canterbury. It is modern, clean and warm. Overlooking Lyttelton Harbour, Purau Bay and Godley Heads, Mt Herbert cottage is a 45 minute drive from Central Christchurch offering an amazing location and stunning scenery in a private, rural setting. Relax in comfort in the cottage with wonderful art, books and a homely atmosphere. Enjoy the local walkways, cafe's, beaches and a ferry ride to Lyttelton. Mt Herbert Cottage is a private paradise. Situated on Mt Herbert Station on an elevated sight above the township of Diamond Harbour and Purau Bay, it has wonderful views of Godley Heads and to the head of the Lyttelton Harbour. Access to the cottage is easy with an internal garage available or parking by the front door. The parking area and the garden surrounding the cottage are level. A scenic 15 minute walk from the cottage and you are at the local Diamond Harbour cafe's where you can enjoy a morning coffee or dinner out in the evening. From the cafe's it is a short stroll down to the wharf where the Diamond Harbour/Lyttelton Ferry departs regularly to the port town of Lyttelton. Lyttelton is an exciting and interesting community and every Saturday holds a wonderful Farmers Market from 10am - 1pm, offering a superb range of local produce such as fruit and vegetables, cheeses, breads, specialty beers, olives and co., meats and great coffee. From Mt Herbert Cottage it is an easy walk down to Purau Bay for a swim or a kayak. There are 3 kayaks available for use and two mountain bikes. Diamond Harbour offers a wonderful place for walking and exploring. There are several walks based from Diamond Harbour. The main walk is Mt Herbert Walkway, a 3 1/2 hour walk, which guests can start from the cottage. There are many beautiful beaches to enjoy. Pile Bay (10 minutes drive), Camp Bay (20 minutes drive), Port Levy (30 minutes drive) and Le Bons Bay (1 1/2 hours drive). Banks Peninsula is a wonderful place to explore and experience some magical scenery. Mt Herbert Cottage is situated along Bayview Road, Diamond Harbour on Mt Herbert Station. The entire house and grounds are available to guests. Access is easy with a driveway to the front door and flat land surrounding the cottage. There is an attached garage with internal access. We are very happy to help guests with their stay and to answer any questions they may have. Diamond Harbour, Banks Peninsula, Canterbury is a peaceful coastal township in the heart of the Lyttelton Harbour. The town consists of both permanent residents and holiday houses. The atmosphere is friendly and laid back. There is a local primary school and preschool, an On The Spot shop offering basic essentials, two cafe's, a hairdresser and a library and numerous sports clubs and hobby groups. Lyttelton Harbour is a busy and exciting harbour to watch with plenty of activity on the water and in the port town of Lyttelton. Diamond Harbour is a restful place to escape to with plenty of options of activities if you choose; walkways, coastal tracks, swimming, dining out, a visit to Lyttelton by ferry and there are numerous places of Banks Peninsula to explore by car. A car would be advantageous for those who are wanting to explore the nearby bays and communities. However, for those arriving by ferry from Lyttelton we are happy to pick them up when they arrive and drop them off to the ferry when they depart. For those wanting to base their stay around Diamond Harbour, everything is accessible on foot. The cottage is situated on a working farm. There may be dogs barking, tractors and general farm activity noises from time to time!
