Charming Medieval Cottage.
Discover the real France in this wonderful ancient village, staying in La Petite Maison which is over 500 years old. This charming maison in the centre of the village has been comfortably renovated without losing its fantastic character and charm. La Petite Maison occupies the ground floor of the house. It has one bedroom with a very comfortable queen size bed. All bed linen and towels are provided. There are also two single beds at the end of the lounge, suitable for children or another adult. The fully equiped kitchen has a gas cooktop , a microwave and a small refridgerater. The lounge/dining room has TV, music and books. The courtyard (shared with La Grande Maison) is a lovely place to enjoy a meal with a local wine. Our other listing - La Grande Maison - occupies the first and second floors of the house and can be rented at the same time for larger groups. The laundry may be shared by guests in La Grande Maison. There are a few shops in the village, a bar and boulangerie close by, and a weekly farmer's market. There are marvellous restaurants in nearby towns. Because we have very few tourists the food is genuine and reasonably priced. Herisson is a beautiful medieval village which has not been spoiled by industry or tourism, so it looks much like it might have during the 15C. The village is surrounded by farms and small villages and the very large Troncais Forest. There is a large winery area about 40kms away at St Porcain. There are many ancient churches and and chateaux to visit. The quiet lanes around the village are marvellous for walking and cycling. There is very little public transport in Herisson, so you do need a car. Parking is plentiful and free.
