Luxury 30 m2 garden studio in the fishing village of Kalk Bay. Queen-size bed, bathroom and kitchen. Situated 250m up a cobbled road from the harbour and village. Walk 3 mins down to the seaside, with shops, cafés, restaurants and wine bars, or 2 mins directly up onto the mountainside. Four tidal pools and three beaches within walking distance. 20 Mbit/sec uncapped wifi suitable for remote working. The studio is completely private with its own entrance below the main house. You have access to a private garden with table and chairs. There is a view of the sea and mountainside from the garden. We live in the main house and are always ready to help. Usually someone will be on-hand to welcome you when you arrive. If not, we will give you details of the lockbox containing keys. Kalk Bay has a relaxed village atmosphere. It is safe and close to walk to the many local shops, cafés & restaurants. At last count there are 30 places you can eat or drink. Our favourite coffee shop is Bob's Bagels (6 mins) and the restaurant we visit most often is Satori (7 mins), where you can get a mean pizza or pasta! Olympia Bakery makes artisanal bread and pastries (3 mins). Booze of all kinds is sold next door at Tops. We are blessed with four tidal pools and three beaches between 5 and 30 minutes walk. Summer sea temperatures are 18-20ºC. Shoulder seasons 16-18º. Winter swimming is only for the brave! There is great walking in the area, either along the sea shore or on the mountain. There is a pedestrian walkway directly next to the sea between St James and Muizenberg. And there are well-used paths that criss-cross the mountain, including indigenous forests and interesting caves. All directly accessible from your front door! As with any place, reasonable safety precautions are advised. We suggest you walk with someone (or a dog!) during quiet times. We are 6 minutes walk from the nearest train station. Note that trains are operating less frequently on this line during COVID-19. An Uber is never more than a few minutes away. Free parking is available on the street. Important notices A. COVID-19 (Corona virus) We are mindful of the impact of this pandemic on the lives of everyone. At present we are keeping our studio open for bookings. We believe we can keep you and ourselves as safe as possible by: 1) Allowing a full day (24 hours) between bookings. 2) Carrying out a thorough cleaning AND disinfection of the studio after guests depart, following proper WHO protocols. 3) Washing all bedding and towels on a hot setting and drying them thoroughly. 4) Providing appropriate cleaning materials and protection equipment for guests. Note that the studio is completely separate from the rest of our home and we practice "social distancing" when interacting with you. We will adapt our actions as the situation changes and in line with government regulations and Airbnb policy. B. Load shedding We are equipped to deal with the current load shedding situation. We provide rechargeable LED lamps, candles and a torch. The studio has a gas hob which can be lit using a lighter that we provide. Therefore it remains possible for you to cook and read at all times. The water heating is solar. The refrigerator does require electricity, but is able to cope well with the periodic 2-hour cuts that take place. C. Water restrictions Cape Town recently suffered a severe water shortage. The critical period is past, but we remain water conscious and request our guests to help us use water wisely. The City of Cape Town requires all residents and visitors to use no more that 105 litres of municipal water per person per day. Note: It takes around 30 seconds for the water to run hot, as the solar-assisted hot water tank is some distance from the studio.
