Kerswell Farm Shepherd Huts - The Cress Well
The Cress Well Shepherd Hut is named after the springs and pond a little below and to the left of the hut. The name of the farm, ‘Kerswell’, came from ‘Cress Well’. The springs emerge from a rock face at the top of the pond which was quarried perhaps hundreds of years ago. The purpose of the large pond, restored in 2013, is unknown but was probably to ensure a water supply for livestock. It may also have been used to feed other cress beds below the massive earth dam. The Kerswell Farm Shepherd Huts are located in Peters Meadow, a tranquil field of 1.5 acres enjoying spectacular views towards Dartmoor. There are two luxury Shepherd Huts situated at the top of the meadow. They are called The Cress Well after a nearby pond used once for growing watercress, and The Three Hares after an ancient symbol with its origins in early Buddhism and sometimes associated with Dartmoor tin miners. Kerswell Farm has a resident pair of hares that guests may be able to spot. The Shepherd Huts are spacious and luxuriously appointed with fitted double beds, shower rooms and well-equipped kitchen/dining areas. The huts enjoy mains water and electricity and a modern purpose-built drainage system. Outside each hut is a broad deck with a table and chairs, ideal for watching the changing skies in the west as the sun goes down. At Kerswell Farm Shepherd Huts we are dog friendly for well-behaved dogs who have their own bed.
