Akatea Hill - Secluded, peaceful, rural hideaway

Escape to your own handcrafted cabin in the heart of a preserved remnant of native bush, with views to the rolling farmland and a peep of Mt Karioi. Here you can sit in complete privacy, reconnect with nature and enjoy a hot chocolate or a glass of red wine while watching the Tui, Piwakawaka and Keruru duck and dive around the trees. This is a unique style of accommodation - coming to stay here is a perfect getaway for those in seek of relaxation and tranquillity. Once you arrive there are a variety of comfortable nooks to reconnect, hang out and read. At night enjoy a deep hot bath under the stars, and it is only a few steps back inside to the warmth of the cabin to curl up on the couch or upstairs to sleep in the luxurious super king bed. If you want to explore Raglan, 10 minutes takes you into the heart of town with plenty of places to choose from for exceptional coffee, a variety of restaurants and retail stores. From here you can head another 15 minutes to Manu Bay and watch the surfers whatever the weather. If you feel the need to venture out but stay in nature, a 10-minute drive from the cabin is Bridal Veil Falls, an easy walk through the mossy bush to see the famous waterfall at her best in winter. Or 15 minutes drive to a long walk along an unpopulated West Coast beach (Ruapuke) with its wild waves and dramatic big skies. The Space: Nestled in 2ha of native bush where the climbing Akatea (White Rata vine) gives its name. There are two spacious bedrooms: 1. A master on the upstairs mezzanine floor with one super king bed, private balcony and beautiful views overlooking the rural rolling landscape. 2. Downstairs is a spacious bedroom with one queen size bed and one single day bed, separated from the living area with a sliding barn door. - The kitchen is equipped with small fridge, small freezer, gas stovetop and all the necessary kitchen utensils, glassware, cups, plates and cutlery. - The living area has a dining table that seats 4, a breakfast bar and a comfortable couch. - There is a large deck to take advantage of the outdoor bath and expansive views, generous outdoor dining table, BBQ and comfortable relaxation chairs - One bathroom with flushing toilet, and shower inside. - But the guest highlight is always the outdoor bath or hot outdoor shower under a canopy of trees. We supply: - High-quality linen and towels - Coffee, tea, hot chocolate and a small carton of milk - Shampoo, conditioner and body wash - A JBL Bluetooth speaker - Puzzles, board games and magazines The cabin is yours to completely enjoy to yourselves and you are welcome to walk and explore the outdoor areas, in the bush and on the farm. Only a short drive to a multitude of activities - Bridal Veil Falls walk is 10 mins drive, Ruapuke Beach 15 mins drive, Raglan Town and Beaches 10 - 12 mins drive or Hamilton city 35 mins drive. Te Uku store (basic necessities) and coffee shop (best coffee in Raglan) is 7 mins drive. You will need a car to get to Akatea Hill. Raglan town is an 11km drive to the nearest public transport. As per the government regulations, if this property location is in a COVID restricted travel area we will only accept reservations for those requiring accommodation as an essential worker, travelling to Raglan for essential work purposes. We will not accept reservations for leisure travel. You may be asked to provide your essential worker exemption form and evidence of a negative COVID test prior to arrival. There is no Wifi but you are able to connect to your mobile data and you can easily charge all your devices. Akatea Hill is located at the back of a working farm and is accessed via an 800m groomed gravel track. Please enquire if you are unsure about your vehicle capability on gravel roads. Occasionally there will be a gate or tape across the track that will require opening and closing as you pass through to keep animals secure. A gentle reminder that the cabin is a non-smoking cabin at all times and we are unable to host pets or parties. We recommend bringing your food and beverage supplies with you prior to arrival. Raglan town (11km away) has a Supervalue and FourSquare. A BBQ is available for use during your stay. It is much appreciated if you could clean after use. We reserve the right to charge for additional cleaning if the BBQ is found dirty. We encourage recycling, there is a recycling bin to the side of the cabin for glass/cardboard etc. This is an off-grid cabin powered by solar panels. There are limited appliances due to a limit in the amount of power. There is no fan or air conditioning at the cabin. Please turn off lights or any appliances when they are not required. Professionally installed gas heating is easy to use. The cabin is rural and located in farmland and bush and so only natural that you will have some inquisitive wildlife around the cabin. The cabin has a 3 pm check-in time. If the cabin is ready earlier, we will happily message you and let you know on the day. Linen and towels are included in your nightly rate.
