We offer eco-farm stay, hosted accommodation in our two yurts that includes a three-course slow cooked BBQ dinner, finishing with something sweet to end the night. A cooked breakfast is also included in the price. Our price is $390 per night for two people ($195) per person - more information visit bigskynz There is no minimum stay and a maximum of two guests in each yurt at any time. Big Sky is an eco-friendly farm stay, hosted by Dave (Smokie D), Erin and their daughter Lauren. Accomodation is in a spacious wool-insulated yurt, with a very comfortable queen bed overlooking Akaroa Harbour and the surrounding hills. We have two Yurts - each has a separate bathroom with a shower and toilet. One Yurt is off the gird, but has beautiful solar lights. A great area for our guests to enjoy is Smokie D's BBQ shack. This a communal area where Dave serves his beautiful BBQ dinners. There is only ever a max of four guests. Complimentary tea and coffee are available throughout your stay. We are a 15 minute drive from Akaroa, a quaint harbourside town founded by French settlers in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) The town still has a French influence. Here you can taste the most delicious fudge and search for gems and crystals in beautiful jewellery stores. Dolphin watching is also available. There are also lovely art galleries, restuarants, and cosy cafes with croissants and baguettes on offer. In the area there are many marvellous walking and mountain biking tracks. We are located close to two bays, French Farm Bay and Wainui Beach. Both are lovely for a summer swim and seaside views. Once when I was swimming in Wainui, a Dolphin came and swam with me. This is very common in the area, so if you’re lucky you may get to swim with Dolphins! Just down the road is award-winning cheese maker Barrys Bay Cheese factory. Please visit our website bigskynz dot co dot nz - can't list it as a proper URL! Dave's passion for BBQing started when he trained as a chef more than 30 years ago in Sydney. Dave's passion for BBQing has seen him travel extensively seeking out different BBQ styles - from chicken skewers cooked over charcoal in the markets of Singapore, to the low and slow cooked meats found in the United States. There are no cooking facilities for guests. Our accommodation is a hosted eco farm-stay on our property Big Sky. You will meet Dave at Smokie D's BBQ shack as he cooks your meals. If you are lucky he may share one of his famous BBQ recipes with you :) A bonus of being on the Peninsula is the ability to source good quality, local ingriedients to provide good honest and delicious BBQ food. We want your stay to be private and peaceful - but if you need anything we are on site to help. Your accommodation is very private. Te Rautahi is the name given to French Farm, the earliest area of European occupation in the Akaroa Harbour. It is also the name of the large creek flowing into the bay. Big Sky overlooks Akaroa Harbour with great views of the Akaroa township. French Farm is one of the most tranquil bays within Akaroa Harbour. On one side of Big Sky you will see our neighbour's winery which is often dotted with their sheep. This is not to be confused with French Farm winery which is located on Winery Road. All around the Banks Peninsula there are beaches to enjoy, tracks to explore and within five minutes you can be at the historial Onawe Peninsula. The views from Big Sky through the day are vast and tranquil, but it is the night sky and the opportunity to stargaze that make it special. We can provide celestial night sky binoculars and star charts if you are interested in star gazing. The quaint township of Akaroa is a only 15 minute drive. From Big Sky you can enjoy all the Banks Peninsula has on offer. We are about an hours drive from Christchurch. If you need to be picked up from the airport we can arrange that for a fee. There are also daily buses that leave Christchurch and go to Akaroa - (Hidden by Airbnb) Akaroa bus timetable. We are a family and love this space. We are working together to create a permaculture garden and a moon garden. We are growing fresh vegetables and our fruit comes from our orchard - when in season. We all have a huge passion for cooking. All of our water is collected from the rain. We store it in large tanks, and filter it with UV. It is delicious and drinkable, however as it’s our only supply of water, we are conscious about length of showers, watering our gardens etc. So we ask you to be conscious with water consumption. The 4G mobile phone network is active at Big Sky.
