Spacious historic farmhouse
Welcome to our freshly renovated 17th century farmhouse 'La Bottière' sprawled over 200m² living space and beautiful nature all around, with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, one sitting-cum-dining room, a library with extra bed, a large kitchen and foyer. La Bottière - a 17th Century farmhouse - is a gem, and won a national prize for renovation, for preserving old features and using historic techniques (e.g. lime mortar and paint). The house originally belonged to the nearby 11th Century Monastery of Bellelay that used to make the famous Tete de Moine cheese, and was later owned by a traditional Mennonite Family that lived a simply life without electricity and running hot water until we bought it 20 years ago. We took time for the renovation, which we largely did ourselves whenever we had free time. La Bottière is part of a beautiful, extremely quiet hamlet, with 3 nice neighbours. It is right next to a nature reserve, a national bicycle trail, plenty of horse riding as well as berry and mushroom picking opportunities and rivers, lakes and pools inviting for a swim as well as small ski stations and dozens of kilometers of well-maintained cross-country skiing tracks. You can use the full house minus the attic, a locked workshop and one spare room. You will obviously be on your own (with handy assistance whenever needed). La Bottière also has a spacious sitting area in front (lime stone tiles) and in the back (lime gravel) with plenty of outside tables, chairs and two big umbrellas. There is an outside fireplace with firewood for grilling available. The house has a 3000m² garden and you can park up to three cars. The farm house is managed by our neighbours, Scheideggers, a farming family living next door, who will be your host and are there to assist you whenever you need. Scheideggers are bilingual French and German speakers and do have basic English. You can also discuss with them additional services that you may need/wish, such as visiting their farm and animals, pick-ups and drop-offs etc. They also sell eggs and other products directly off their farm. Your children are welcome to visit Scheideggers' farm with cows, cats, a dog, rabbits, chicken and ducks. Scheideggers also offer strawberry and raspberry fields for self-picking, from June to September. Jura mountains, the region where our village - La Bottière - is located, is a plateau situated just under 1000 meters altitude and offers traditional agriculture with vast grazing meadows for cows and horses. Our village is a tucked away quiet place, away from the main road with no sound of traffic other then the occasional farming tractor, whining of horses and jingling sounds of cow bells. Hiking, gentile walks, bicycle tours, exploring the rich nature, collecting mushrooms or berries, going for a swim or a ride is easy all around. The house is situated in a tiny hamlet of four houses. The neighbourhood offers a lot of tourist attractions. The famous Bellelay horse stables and the 11th Century Bellelay Monastery with its modern arts exhibition and organ concerts are 2 km away, so are shopping possibilities. Public transport access (bus connecting to train stations) is 600m from the house, but the service is infrequent You can discuss with Scheideggers, your host, any additional services that you may wish to have - such as, having your children play on their farm or help with berry picking or cleaning cow shed or feeding farm animals.
