Spacious, self-contained annex near Edinburgh

At the edge of the Pentland Hills, you can hike from your front door, wander to the local pub or take a bus to Edinburgh. The suite has private access for guests. It has 1 bedroom which accommodates 4 people in a huge, comfortable bed and a high quality sofa-bed. Barleydean Suite is a ground floor private suite within our house in the country. The house is a converted dairy barn, rebuilt to an exceptional standard in 2008, and the suite is located in one of the wings with its own private entrance and parking space. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, we have enhanced our cleaning and sanitation procedures and have committed to Airbnb’s protocol. Due to the remote location, you can relax and safely distance yourself if needed. If you encounter any health issues during or after your stay, please notify us. We are situated at the edge of the Pentland Hills in Midlothian, close to Roslin (home to Rosslyn Chapel and Dolly the sheep!), Penicuik (an old mill and mining town) and 8 miles away from Edinburgh centre. Barleydean Suite is the perfect base for exploring the countryside, including Pentland Hills, Roslin Glen Country Park and Glencorse Reservoir. It takes half an hour to drive into Edinburgh centre where there are hundreds of bars, restaurants, clubs, shops and tourist hotspots. The suite has been recently redecorated in neutral tones to a high standard, with good quality furnishings including a superking-sized bed, king-sized sofa bed, table and chairs, smart TV, and luxury bathroom with bath and double shower. A new kitchen was installed in March 2022, with induction hob, sink, fridge, Nespresso coffee machine, microwave, kettle and washing machine. There is a separate room where there is a kitchenette and a large wardrobe. This room can hold a cot, if you prefer your infant to sleep in a separate room. We can provide a travel cot (0-18 month olds) should you require this. There are bars and restaurants a short drive away, as well as several food delivery options. You will have access to the guest suite of our house. The suite has its own private front door, one large bedroom, a kitchen/dressing area and a large luxury bathroom. The suite is locked off from the main part of the house, so you will have privacy to come and go and feel secure in your own part of the house. Our property managers Matt and Kerry will be on hand to answer any questions that you have during your stay. We live in a safe, peaceful area, with mainly horses, cows and sheep for neighbours. Look out for the resident deer family who you may see wandering around the garden. We are on a private country track, which can make the ride in a little bumpy! But the advantage of not living on a beautifully tarmacked road is that there is very little traffic and no fast cars. We are in the country with access to some lovely walks right from the front door. There is a pub 10 minutes walk away and a bus stop 20 minutes walk away. The bus can take you to Edinburgh centre, local towns and the retail park. However, we highly recommend that you have a car during your stay here.
