Cottage B and B in rural retreat
This cosy detached cottage is a rural retreat away from the hustle and bustle of life –set in the grounds of a medieval farmhouse called Little England. The setting and the garden are quite magical as the name suggests. This is the space for you if you want somewhere to rest, recuperate and recharge your batteries. On the other hand, if you want to explore the area there are many exciting places to visit if you choose to. We are on the Somerset Levels , which is an area abundant in wildlife and in particular birds. Whether you are a bird watcher, walker or into cycling – then this area is for you. The cottage itself is completely private and apart from the main house, with its own front door and key. It is decorated in a simple, stylish contemporary way but modernised to a high standard. The cottage was originally a farm worker’s cottage and still retains many of the original features, including exposed beams, which adds character to the space. The private entrance leads you into an open plan living area with a coat stand to put your coats on and a space to leave your shoes. Here is a dining area with four chairs and a sitting space and a hidden away kitchenette area. It comprises of a 2 ring hob, sink, a full sized fridge and a table top oven. You can shut away the kitchen are when not using, as a curtain can be drawn across this area. A staircase takes you up to a large mezzanine sitting area that looks down onto the floor below. This is a comfy space with a sofa, that doubles up as a sofa bed and can become a second bedroom if needed. There are some large floor cushions and bean bags for snuggling into whilst you either to listen to music from the music system or relax watching television from our Smart TV. There is a DVD player; if you want to bring along some of your own DVDs, please do, or we can loan you something from our collection. Should you need WIFI that’s included as well. We have provided you with big selection of board games should you wish to hide away. Downstairs, there is a separate bedroom, with a double bed and a very comfy memory foam mattress, to give you a restful night’s sleep. Next door is a very stylish bathroom with a large walk in shower. All bed linen and towels are provided. If you would like your visit to be more of a healing retreat, then we can provide that too. Your host is a Reflexologist and can offer treatments in our treatment room next door to the cottage, however it is best to pre book before you arrive. The village has a pub (The London Inn) that does cooked foods and a Sunday carvery and is within walking distance - (no food on a Monday/Sunday evening). Maisey's Bakery has a small cafe for lunches - not open on a Monday/Sunday. Breakfast is provided daily and we cater for gluten free and allergies - just let us know beforehand and we will try our best to accommodate your wishes. Continental Breakfast ingredients are left in the cottage when you arrive, it means that you can have breakfast when you want it. Our aim is to give you a very comfortable, restful stay in Little England, it is as lovely as it sounds. Guests have the cottage entirely to themselves and will have their own key, ideal if you want a romantic break and privacy. In the cottage you are provided with a kitchenette – a sink, hob, table top oven and a full -size fridge . This means that you are able to cook an evening meal if you wish. Guests are very welcome to use the garden and the facilities. This includes our wood burning stoves, lovely for evenings outside by the warmth of the fire. We live in the main house – a lovely Medieval Farmhouse – with exposed beams and wood burning fires in winter. We are ‘on–hand’ should you need us but also totally un-intrusive if you want us to be. However, you might meet us in the garden. The cottage is at the end of a quiet no–through road in the village of Othery. We don’t have street lights in the village, so on clear nights the night sky is very visable. The village itself has a number of amenities within walking distance. We have our own village bakery called Maisey's that sells amazing bread and cakes – and if you want to sit in and eat there is also a café area. The bakery is open Tuesday to Saturday 8.30 until about 3.30. Likewise, food is served in the village pub, The London Inn. They do lunches and evening meals and on a Sunday they do a carvery - all reasonably priced. We have a Post Office, which is a bit of a luxury here in rural Somerset. We can offer numerous places to visit, depending on what you want to do. If you want nature, wildlife and birdwatching everything is on your doorstep as we are on the Somerset Levels. Glastonbury with its Tor and interesting town are only 15 miles away. Bridgwater, the home of Carnival is 8 miles away; during the Autumn months Somerset has many illuminated Night carnivals. Our nearest small town is Langport which is about 5 miles away, there are some nice little shops and several really nice cafes and our nearest Tesco. Langport is where our nearest petrol garage is and ATM's for drawing out cash. We can advise you on more places to visit once you are here. You really need a car to get around as we are in a rural part of Somerset, although we have buses that run hourly through the village. Easy access from the M5 motorway and the A303 (approx. 20 minutes to both). Othery is situated on the main A361 between Taunton and Glastonbury. There is plenty of parking and safe places to keep bikes if you wish to bring them. Please advise us before hand, if you need to bring more than one car with you.
