The property has been in Denise’s family since the 1920s when it belonged to her great grandparents. The decadent and glamorous lifestyle of the 1920s was the inspiration for our interiors here at Swallowfields. The 1920s was also the era for luxury African safaris – that’s why our safari tent interiors blend 1920s art-deco glitz and glamour with exotic touches of African safari chic, but with a modern twist. Fancy walking in the footsteps of Florence Nightingale, Charles Darwin, CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien and Queen Victoria, to name but a few? Back in the day, they all visited the Malvern Hills and the spa town of Malvern to take in the many benefits widely associated with its spring water and the majestic hills. Fast forward to the present day and Malvern is regularly visited by people far and wide, all keen to take in the delights of this Area of Natural Outstanding Beauty, with its 3,000+ acres of open grass and woodland. Head to the Malverns and you’ll see some of England’s finest countryside, whether you fancy a gentle stroll along a tree-lined path or an energetic trek. A favourite walk is to Midsummers Hill, an Iron Age hillfort built around 390 BC and it's thought that the settlement was occupied by 1500 people until it was destroyed by fire in AD 48. En route, you'll pass the Gullet quarry and Ruffz Refreshment Kiosk serving hot and cold beverages, homemade cakes and ice cream! At the top, you'll be rewarded with stunning panoramic views across Eastnor Obelisk and Deer Park, to Wales, the Severn estuary and the Cotswolds. In April the bluebells are impressive and you may hear the rare and haunting sound of the cuckoo. If you're after a quick meal, nearby Barnards Green has a number of takeaways including Fish & Chips, Chinese and Subway. We recommend Wok 'n' Roll for a delicious Chinese. Guests have highly recommended Mojitos in Upton-upon-Severn for its homemade pizza and takeout cocktails. Just the bee's knees! If it's a home delivery you are after, we highly recommend Thrishna Cuisine, a Premium Bangladeshi and Indian Restaurant that will deliver to Swallowfields for a small delivery fee. Or why not travel a little further and visit the beautiful and historic Cotswold village of Broadway, often referred to as the “Jewel of the Cotswolds”. For activities, there's plenty of hiking, walking, mountain biking and cycling to be had on and around the Malvern Hills. There are guided walks or you can take part in a themed walk, such as the Literacy Trail, where you can follow in the footsteps of literary greats, CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien. We also recommend taking a trip to the nearby Forest of Dean which is excellent for hiking and mountain biking. The River Severn, Avon and the River Wye are marine playgrounds, and we're lucky to have them close by. River fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, raft building and stand up paddle-boarding are all available. We highly recommend boating to Tewkesbury where you can moor, have fish & chips and then enjoy a leisurely return to Upton-upon-Severn marina. You can take the dog too! Head to local attractions, such as the 3 Counties Showground, Eastnor Castle or Cotswold Farm Park, get creative at Eastnor Pottery or take a journey on Britain's premier Severn Valley Railway. Worcestershire is a great place to step back in time to a bygone era and cherish the delights of yesteryear. There's a wide range of historic houses, including Elgar's Birthplace, Croome Park, Whitley Court and Worcester Cathedral. There are also various historic sites and museums to explore across the county, ranging from the Morgan Motor Company, Avoncroft Museum, and the gas lamps in Malvern, which have inspired the opening line in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. And if you fancy a little tipple, then make sure you check out Astley Vineyard, Westons Cider and The Chase Distillery. There’s so much to see and do, the choice is yours… The glampsite is located on Drugger's End Lane in Castlemorton. The site is well connected by road and rail and is less than an hour from Birmingham and Bristol and just over an hour from Oxfordshire. Hire bikes are available but must be booked in advance. Bus services to Great Malvern are very limited and there is no other public transportation.
