A pleasant home, with lovely sunroom, gardens, and amenities. Visiting wildlife, paths on property. 5 minute drive to Acadia National Park's Schoodic Section. Galleries, artist studios, & Restaurants in the area. Trails nearby of varying degrees of difficulty, several music venues ongoing through out the summer, pristine lakes for that refreshing swim. Covid has altered hours and format. Confirm any plans. What you find here is a home nestled within gardens and surrounded by many forested acres. A short walk (less than a tenth of a mile drive) brings you to one of the few sand beaches in this area. Perhaps a brisk swim in the Atlantic Ocean is your cup of tea. Less than 5 miles brings you to Schoodic Section of Acadia National Park, the spectacular mainland section of Acadia, culminating in a rocky promontory jutting out into the Atlantic. A bold coast with several miles of hiking trails, and 8 miles of maintained bike paths area here for you to explore. The living room, sunroom, kitchen, open deck to the front, small screened in porch to the back shady side of the house, all grounds, gardens are common space and available. These spaces are shared with a family member who has moved home during this time of covid disruptions. The smaller bedroom (no photos) is currently for the solo AirBnB guest who made special arrangements to rent long term. Once covid is behind us, I will try to rework this listing. There are trails nearby, miles of bike trails and hiking paths at the Schoodic Section of Acadia National Park, as well as other choices for hikes on other Preserve Lands - for which there are links online. There is also a notebook with suggestions and information details here at the house. The barn/garage are locked and not available for the guest. Written information detailing area restaurants, artists, galleries, and the many outdoor adventure opportunities is available in a notebook which I have prepared for you. I greet you upon your arrival to welcome you and answer any immediate questions. During your stay, I'm available by text or phone almost any time for further questions or if there should be an emergency. The Peninsula is made up of several smaller fishing villages where people have lived by the sea and their own efforts for many generations. It is also a haven for artists, craftspeople, and writers who chose this area for its unsurpassed beauty and relative peacefulness, away from the hubbub of more crowded areas. There is private parking here on site. There are bike trails nearby (rentals available through a local business in Winter Harbor, 5 miles away), hiking trails, free Island Explorer bus every half hour on this Peninsula during the summer with a pick up point 7/10ths of a mile from here. The bus also stops almost anywhere that is a safe stopping point along the route to pick up passengers. In 2016 there were two passenger ferries leaving Winter Harbor and crossing Frenchman Bay to Bar Harbor. I believe it will be the same this year. (2018) One drops you in the heart of Bar Harbor where you can access a system of free shuttle buses which leave every few minutes from the town green. The other is a research vessel affiliated with College of the Atlantic which drops you at the COA (College of the Atlantic), a lovely campus of note. The free Island Explorer buses also stop at COA regularly and shuttle you almost anywhere on the Island. The ferries runs through September 15th. The Bar Harbor Ferry usually runs through Columbus Day. Otherwise, if you wish to explore Bar Harbor and MDI (Mount Desert Island) by car, it is a 44 mile drive from here. Summer traffic is a factor to consider for at least those last 20 miles. There is a grocery store 5 miles away, a few basic staples in the cupboards, a couple of organic farms, and a few restaurants nearby. I am available any time you have questions, with a simple text. :-)
